Herbie Hide comeback....
Herbie Hide comeback....
At Cruiserweight.
It appears that Hide will be fighting next month in Germany and will be moving down to cruiserweight for his comeback.
Any thoughts on whether he can do anything at this weight or is it going to end in disaster yet again for the dancing destroyer?

He's already made his comeback mate, tail end of last year. KO'd a guy totally out of his depth. He was below 200 though.
That was under Warrior boxing's guidance, but apparetntly he's two-timed them with a German boxing promotor. I think it was stujones who put a thread up about that.
Anyway, Herbie is Herbie. I don't think he's going to be any the worse for the lay-off. His chin and his punch are going to settle the outcome of any fights he's in as always.
I do actually think he may have a chance of getting a title fight and winning if he's active over the next year.

Didnt realise he had already made a comeback
Just back from a year in Australia so have missed a lot of boxing coverage as it is pathetic over there......trust me when i say we have a lot to be thankful for in regards to our tv/sky coverage.
Anyway back to Hide, i agree that with his power and lack of chin his fights are always going to be interesting but the last i saw of him it seemed as though his speed was starting to go and as this was one of his main assets i would have to have serious doubts about him going anywhere near championship level again, whether it be at Cruiser or Heavyweight.

Arene box promotion have taken him on and it looks like he will be based in Germany for the forseeable future.
197 lbs!!! did he look any good at that weight?
As I understand it he can't come back to the UK A) because there are outstanding warrants out on him and B) because he had pissed of some dangerous people.KO Artist wrote:Yeah, the herb weighed 197 for that. He is in good shape.Exile wrote:Didnt realise he had already made a comeback![]()

I don't see Herbie Hide making it back into the championship level. Only a few HW's in history have jumped down from that weight into lower weights. Take Leon Spinks as example. Was a one/two fight wonder at Cruiserweight and then got knocked out cold, and he was a Gold Medalist and already won the HW title and challenged for the HW title after losing it.
Hide was a good fighter, but too long a lay off, weight class removed from his last. He might be able to take a Cruiserweight punch better than a HW punch, but I dont see him making any big waves. In truth, I never saw how great Hide was outside of the island, he was a solid good fighter, but nothing to scream over.

To be honest, whilst he was always quite entertaining he was never a real top level boxer. For sure he has a lot of wins and a good KO record but he never fought and beat anyone even near top 10 material. The 2 best names on his record are his losses to Bowe and Vitali.
I cant recall any of his wins being against anyone that great, Tucker was way past his best when he beat him. He made his name against poor journeymen and, trying not to sound too harsh, bums.
