Holmes 48-1

Post by Jeffsboxing »

I was reading someone's post about Joe Calsaghe's record approaching 49-0 like Marciano's (in "Marciano Links with Mafia" topic), so my mind suddenly went to Larry Holmes just before his loss from Michael Spinks.

What's your opinion about the rumors that Holmes's record will never be able to break Marciano's record of 49-0 as a matter of racial reasons?

The fact that Holmes had to struggle with Spinks as he did is what reflects badly on Holmes---not whether or not the decision was debatable.

The 49-0 is a totally academic topic---of no real significance.

What is is significant is that Holmes--who purported to be a heavyweight champion---could not handle Spinks (who was a pathetic excuse for a real heavyweight) any better than he did.

That is the biggest load of crap i have ever heard. Of course if Holmes was white you would saying he is the greatest of all time.

Generally Terap when Heavyweight get old their performance get worse as the physical strains of boxing get to them, this happened to Louis, Ali, Holmes, Tyson, Lewis and anyother champions you can name, the same was true of Larry Holmes.

The fact is that both Fights imo where both Holmes Victories, and that in 1980 Holmes would have beaten Spinks easily, in the same Style that Tyson Crushed Spinks in 88.

A good question would be how would Tyson Deal with a 88 spinks now? i think we would see Tyson struggle or lose against him if in the same situation as Holmes.

Back to the topic, i personally believe that holmes was robbed of going 49-0 and this was due to people disliking the mans colour.

Holmes was a great champion and is Vastly underrated by many, i personally believe the only heavy who runs him close is Joe Louis, apart from him i believe Holmes far outdoes anyother Heavy.

The man has Chin Heart and a Cast iron jab and was a great champion, well thats my view anyway.

I thought the first one was a draw and the second one was clearly a Holmes victory.

It doesn't matter, anyway. Even if Holmes had gotten the decision, he would have fought on and eventually lost to Tyson, and the fact he briefly had a better record than Marciano would have been a footnote. What makes Marciano's record famous is that he walked away without a loss.

Quite right jsc. As far as Holmes goes, he was a good heavyweight champion. He just made the same mistake 95% of all heavyweight champs do; he kept fighting way past his prime. He was 37 when he fought Spinks. Before that, he had successfully defended his title 20 times. It's not like he was the first heavyweight to get humiliated when he got too old, look at the list:

Jack Dempsey
Jack Johnson
Joe Louis
Ezzard Charles
Floyd Patterson

And these are just some of the well known guys.

Tyson, you piece of sh*t---

What qualifies a piece of sh*t like yourself to go around accusing other people of being racists?

This is a thread on boxing.

With your low mentality and inability to handle ANYTHING that does not agree with your own thoughts,

you can only offer an ad-hominum attack.

That is the characteristic of the lowest mentalities.

You and your kind are turning this site into garbage.
Would you now mind Answering the other points in my post as i did in yours.

As to lopman, it seems i have joined an elite club!

IMO, even if Holmes did deserve the decision in the Spinks fights, which he possibly did, he still wasn't really robbed of going 49-0. Holmes could easily have won the fights with Spinks, but he also could very easily have lost multiple early decisions like the Witherspoon and Norton fights, and so it all evens out. Holmes wasn't generally robbed of decisions throughout his career or anything. He had good luck with the judges on some nights, and bad luck on others. Nothing to gripe about.

Yeah anyone can join. All they have to do is either:

1. Say something terap disagrees with.
2. Say something nice about a boxer terap does not like.
3. Say something truthful about terap himself.

You managed to join without trying, which means you are a woman and you don't know it. I got in touch with my feminine side.

Keeping to boxing though I'm sick of all these guys who say Spinks was an all-time legendary of his weight just because his record where he only lost once to a heavyweight on his best night. Like all records & statistics it is irrelevent and useless.

OK I'll admit I only have witnessed one of these guys. This complete moron who said he was "probably the best light-heavyweight of all time" and has other stupid ideas too, Kid Dynamite of BoxingAddicts. After he claimed I never watched boxing(with no proof to back it up) I discontinued replying.

Tyson, I would recommend that to not be a woman you should follow a simple rule:

Never quote things other users say and explain why they are supposedly wrong. Instead proceed to pick out the entirely irrelevent parts and ignore everything else. If this does not take up sufficient space actually say something out of the blue totally unrelated. Make sure to make it obvious you blamed the murderous muslims for 9/11 and you think women have bacteria. And even when you know you are entirely wrong(which basically means every time you argue) keep saying everything with authority and believing without a doubt you are right. Act like a complete prick and masturbate 9 times a day. Shoot dogs for fun, protest against abortion and discriminate against the "lovely muslims Ali was associated with".

Of course since you rarely have any knowledge other than what you read in "An Illustrated History of Boxing" and the film "Ali" by Will Smith study up on Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard and Benetiz because you rarely watch fights. Claim you were at fights and give little details like "I shouted out Leonard eats ****" to make people believe you were.
Would you now mind Answering the other points in my post as i did in yours.
He's never done this before after people request I'd be surprised he'd do it now.

This bickering is tearing the forums apart. Would Lopman and Terap perhaps bicker in another forum or something? This thing with every thread now turning into Lopman and Terap bickering over who's mentally deficient or sexist or whatever is even worse than when Terap was just spamming every thread with anti-Ali propaganda. Perhaps one of you should make a new message board, entitled "The Terap and Lopman flame war message boards." But for now, could you please stop it on here?
