Addressing Terap on the moore-Johnson title fight.
You werent joking about johnson's ability. He is among the most complete all-round boxers ive ever seen, combining speed, power, finesse all coming from a very solid technique. I was dissapointed though, in hiis title fight with moore. Harold utterly schooled archie in every department, but totally lost his composure when moore upped the juice in the later rounds. It may have been archie's most impressive performance however, as he is clearly jaded and not in the rock hard shape he was in the first maxim fight. Through sheer doggedness he managed to overcome a great young fighter at his peak......Get roy doing that!
the only time i saw the full fight was when it was live on tv..and have seen nothing but "highlights" since...and they tend to make Moore look better....and I am a great admirer of Archie. I probably have my scorecard for that one around somewhere....i used to keep them in ring record books and magazines covering the fight in question.....but from memory I had Johnson ahead and on his way to a win. And I was not surprised...I'd seen him fight before.
It's highly unlikely that there is any film of their previous fights. They must have been close because there were rematches and Johnson won one. is there anybody out there who saw any of them. terap...has johnson ever talked about them?
Whatever, i'd love to see Roy Jones try that dippity-doo stuff...hands behind back....you know what I mean..with either of these guys. the only difference in the result would be that against Moore he'd probably be unconcsious a full five minutes...against Harold three.

I was just about to start a thread on Harold Johnson. I still might anyway, before the day is over...
I have the highlights of Moore-Johnson with Rocky commentating. I had Johnson winning most of the rounds shown (which was probably about 8 or 9), and Archie looked all of his 40-something years old, and (according to Rocky) had to drain himself terribly to make the weight. From what I remember, Johnson seemed to get tired or lose his composure as it went into the last couple of rounds. It was Johnson's first ever 15-rounder.
As far as the knockdown of Moore goes, from what I remember it didn't seem like a damaging blow had landed. I thought the punch by Johnson just kind of glanced off the top of Moore's head, and Moore was off balance and went down. I don't think the 8-count given there was a major issue.

Jaclem makes an interesting comparison between roy jones. In assessing jones alot of us see what we want to see, but i would genuinely bet my house on harold johnson having the right style to beat jones. He was technically much superior, better jab, stronger, had a better command of the ring, and most importantly, could go some way in matching roy for speed.
