Danny to Continue
Danny to Continue
Good news (I think). Danny has decided to continue - he is overwhelmed by the positive response to his performance by the public, many used the term "World Class" that he has decided to continue.
Only interested in belts - Wouldn't mind Skelton III if the Commonwealth was on the line, if not then no thanks.
Wants Vilches and hopefully if Maskaev is still around.
I just hope he maintains his trim shape - much quicker.
Says he will be 250% better next time.
Over on the BBC site.

F#CK THE BRITISH SCENE.
Danny could waste yet another 5 years on the British merry go round if he wanted, but now its time to make one last serious run at it.
Keep your weight down, and go for a top European in their yard of go to the states and take on a top 10 US heavyweight.
I'm saying all this well aware the macarbe prospect of yet another match with Harrison/Skelton/Sprott is far more likely.

Re: Danny to Continue
That's a worrying statement. Danny should fight on if he has the desire and self belief to do something meaningful, and not to appease that part of the public that gave him a positive response. Only he knows if he is hungry enough or will be merely going through the motions again.stujones wrote:Good news (I think). The key to Danny is confidence. He needs public support. And he could certainly beat Vladimir Virchis, which is what he is talking about according to the BBC site.SticknMove wrote:That's a worrying statement. Danny should only continue if he's going to get a proper trainer, against Harrison he looked shot, everytime he was caught it shook him to his boots.
In Gammer he fought someone who was largly untested , and not a big puncher, and people are saying it was a world class performance. It wasn't. Danny looked the business in small parts last Friday, and he did end it impressivly, but he also went to sleep in a few rounds, and Gammer if he had a harder punch could have won.
I just can't see Danny doing it at a higher level anymore, as soon as he fights someone with a decent punch he will get beaten.
And i would hate to see that, as i've always been a fan of Dannys, i was one of those that won money on him beating Tyson.

Re: Danny to Continue
True. But unfortunately Danny can not take the public into the ring with him when he goes through a little adversity. That will require him to maintain his desire and self belief. He can not afford to switch on and off as he has done for parts of his career. The Blade wrote:The key to Danny is confidence. He needs public support. I'm definately starting to doubt if Danny knows anything about his own ability.... I don't think its a lack of "belief" about himself - just a lack of knowledge.
As SticknMove said - Danny should rely on the public/his father to tell him what to do. He should have said "that performance was the best I have done in years and shows I still have something to offer" - whether you think Danny is on the slide or not... that mythical "quote" is correct - yet I don't think Danny really believes it (going on what he said post the fight).
I think if you asked him post the fight what was the better display that or the first Harrison one - he would say the first Harrison one. Thats alarming.
He geniunally believes he is better at 19+ stone.... He really needs to look at himself. He says some good things there and I hope he sticks with Dunbar's regime. However, I have the feeling he will be back at 19 stone and geniunally believing he is better.

I'd really hoped that this would provide Danny with an opportunity to retire with his head held high but he's no worse than the majority of boxers who never seem to know the right time to get out.
I'll be supporting him but feel certain that it will end in tears at a higher level.
:(

Go to Germnay and fight Virchis. Virchis needs a name too before he goes to the next level.
If Danny packs the weight on, it'll be back to the same old podgy immobile target that cant get the glass chin out the way of punches, ala Sam, Klitschko, Skelton II, Harrison II....
Please Dan keep your weight down, give it one last serious run.

I think he's doing the right thing as long as his hearts in it and he gives it his best in training not just in the ring. If he can keep his weight down and really believe in himself then he's got a good shot at Virches and I'd give him a chance at Maskayev and Briggs. Dannys had some bad defeats in the past but he's still only 33 and both Briggs and Maskayev came back from a number of bad defeats to win 'titles' Danny has as much talent as those two guys but its just down to whether he can belive in himself enough to use it to its full potential...

Yeah i'm with nickd, Maskaev to stop Williams fairly comfortably. Shannon Briggs however I do think is a winnable fight although I worry about Danny's chin up at that level, he has been looking quite fagile for a while now. Outside of Valuev all the current champs hit very hard, too hard for old Danny.

Yeah but Dannys gets back up & keeps swinging, and Briggs is hardly as elusive as big Klit or durable as said and Sam.
I think 24 rds with a hard nut like Skelton is actually tougher than it will be with the seemingly juiced up, immobile, slow ageing Briggs.
As for Maskaev, remember Danny famously smashed up Maskaev and Obde Sullivan at Gleasons in his NYC exursion in 2000.
It was actually Maskaev allegedly was trying to import to the UK as a follow up after Williams chinned Iron Mike.
I think Williams is a live underdog v Maskaev.
allegedly, all the supposed world title eliminators. Lol, does he actually have any true weight on the world scene? By the looks of it, NO.

Sorry but Williams has done nothing to suggest he could beat Maskaev who for all his shortcomings has beaten world class fighters. Williams beat the shell of Tyson who was nowhere near a world class fighter by then. In his only foray into that level he was on the wrong side of the most one sided Heavyweight title fight I can ever remember and at Euro level shallacked in 6 by Samil Sam who's own limitations have since been exposed at that level. I can't see how they will get Williams a world title shot anyway.
Briggs would be his best chance if he could survive a few rounds he would be in with a shout. I can't see him beating any of the other champions though.

People say Briggs is slow and lumbering but when he does let his hands go (not often I know) he's got good handspeed for such a bulky HW. I don't like Williams' chances against any of the titlists. Valuev is just too big, Briggs has a dangerous punch, Maskaev will soon lose to Peter or Vitali and Wlad would pulverize Danny from range.. Definetly Virchis is the way to go.
