Mighty Joe Young

Whatever happened to former ABA super heavy champ and Repton graduate Joe Young? One impressive pro fight, then dropped off the face of the earth. I used to know him but don't have contact details for him anymore so can't ask the man himself. He had promise, so where did he go? Haven't even seen him hanging around with Audley recently.

i havent heard anything about him for years, one of my good friends beat him in the 99 aba finals, he was being tipped to be a world beater at the time and looked good until being being ko'd with the best punch of my friends career. i think there was a documentry on him a couple of years later. would like to know what he is up to nowadays.

Yes, the BBC did a short segment on him before the ABAs, which he duly then went out and won, turned pro off the back of it, signed with Fight Academy (I think) looked sharp in beating Slick Miller, was booked to have fight #2 on a Clinton Woods undercard, and then..... ?

I saw his pro debut and thought he looked good, very raw but definately had talent and an exciting looking style, shame that he hasnt carried on fighting... the division needs all the talent it can get at the moment...

Young's just vanished off of the radar.

Oliver Fennell, we had a friendly wager a year or two back about who would go further out of Young and Darren Morgan. You opted for Young, I went for Morgan.

Who's actually winning this one ?

Well, hanging around with Audley Harrison won't be much inspiration. Saw him during the idiot's ringwalk against Sprott. No wonder he's packed it in.

thats correct, one of the best come backs ive witnessed in the amatures, as i thought billy wouldnt of got through the third if it wasnt fo the ko. of couse billys version of events is different to mine as he belives he was well ahead on all judges cards and was well in control

Got to say that was one of my favourite 'man with beer-drinking pie-guzzling physique batters muscleman' fights...

Remember it fondly - along with the lard ass Darren Corbett battering a chiselled Chris Okoh... feel guilty about the latter as Okoh is a lovely guy but I remember everyone in the pub laughing their arse off..
