I was wondering what the average age of the posters is on this site?
I have no idea, but I'll bet most of us are caught in a time warp longing for what used to be. Do younger fans care as much ? I mean we live in an era when nobody knows who the heavyweight champ is? The big fight coming up, Mayweather- De la Hoya is an event to be sure. It doesn't revolve around the title though. The title isn't the thing anymore. Nobody cares about that. It's the event. I'll bet most posters are around my age . 54. Who really cares who the champ is ? It used to mean everything.

Re: Posters
Here’s a rather sad quote from a post on the current scene.
It’s little wonder why no one cares about who the champ is.if you could pick one of boxing's 68 "legit" champions to lose - who would you pick? (That's WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO in 17 weight classes.... .

Just another reason why the youngsters are flocking to MMA instead of boxing.
Of course, MMA being international and based on closed "promotions" like pro-wrestling has some problems of this nature as well, but nowhere near the extent of boxing.
Who is the MMA heavyweight champion? It's either Randy Couture (North America) or Fedor Emelianenko (Japan & Europe).
The lightheavyweight champ? Chuck Liddell (North America) or Dan Henderson (Japan & Europe).
Middleweight? Anderson Silva (North America) or Dan Henderson (Japan & Europe).
And so forth...

To care about the (a) title these days is to patronise the organisations that have delivered serious wounds to the sport. It has to be about who you fight now and not what bauble is at stake.
The problem is that anyone can seemingly claim to be an organising body and if it means more bums on seats or more viewers on couches then everyone will accept the latest 3 letter abbreviation.

I was in the post office a few weeks back and 2 people in front of me in the queue was Alan Minter. I couldn't help but think about what a major deal it was for him to have been MW champion and to have his name next to all those other illustrious fighters. the resonance it had for UK fans and casual viewers was immense. It's not like that now.
