Taylor also hit a lot harder than Floyd, and he didn't just decide to trade with Chavez, chavez took his legs away by forcing him to move the whole fight, and battering him to the body with savage hooks, Chavez was always good at cutting the ring down, and fighting on the move like Taylor did for the whole fight is very tiring.

1. beg to differ that the notoriously feather-fisted taylor hit harder than floyd, altho he obviously thought he did by foolishly trading with JCC!! tho their number of stoppages were similar (20 of 38 wins for taylor, 24 of 37 wins for floyd)...floyd stopped more quality fighters than taylor did!!

mayweather: genaro hernandez, chico corrales, jesus chavez, angel manfredy, carlos gerena, gatti, mitchell, phillip ndou, justin juuko, louie leija...

the only 2 fighters taylor stopped who were as good or better than the 10 PBF stoppage victims listed above were: buddy mcgirt and johnmeekins!!

2. floyd is more superbly conditioned than most fighters, including meldrick, who was slick & quick in general but his deftness of footwork was not on the level of PBF's!! so floyd would have much less likelihood of "losing his legs" than taylor!!

I'd actually say that Castillo could be a better outside fighter than Chavez, because he's tall and can easily land lead power shots. JLC seems to have mastered every punch & to his credit delivered in fights with Mayweather (1st), Johnston (1st & 2nd), Casamayor, Corrales (1st - before the gumshield incident!), and these are the elite fighters of the 90s-00s at 130-135.


Both Mexicans had a similar cumulative effect in their shots. But Chavez definitely has the better come forward footwork, faster cutting the ring off, did more in his career, etc.


Definitely, Floyd is very orthodox.

the PBF that was fighting the world's best lightweight (JLC) without a tuneup (like he did castillo) would have more trouble at 135 with chavez than the PBF who won CLEARLY in castillo rematch!!

by the time chavez got to 140, the JCC who lost to whitaker and twice to oscar would have been easily outquicked by floyd!!

as slick a boxer as meldrick taylor was when he THREW away his huge points lead by slugging with julio, PBF is quicker than taylor was and SMART enuf to avoid the FOOLISH time in the trenches that meldrick should have avoided if he had floyd's RING SMARTS!!

chavez that was lucky enuf to get the foolish taylor into a slugfest, would not have succeeded doing that with PBF!!

Floyd had no confidence in the Castillo rematch and basically turned it into a non fight until he actually dared throw clean punches in the last 3 rds to seal the win.

Never mind that a case of taking on the wrong foe - like a peak Mosley, Johnston or Casamayor & particularly Tszyu - could have ended his deception long ago. It almost happened in Castillo 1 anyway.

floyd's so-called "lack of confidence" of course, is a negative way of saying PBF's footwork was better-adjusted to the higher weight of 135 than in 1st fight and therefore made it tougher for JLC to impose his will on floyd than 1st time around!! your lack of appreciation of phenomenal footwork and defense is why you refer to rematch as a "non-fight"!!

as for your question "what makes floyd's little pecks better than the shots castillo landed"? maybe you better take that up with castillo himself...SINCE HE HIMSELF ADMITTED AFTER THE FIGHT THAT FLOYD WON!!

and as for your claim that i wont admit any fighters of last 25 years could beat PBF, the following in their primes, would have VERY realistic chance to beat prime PBF:

I didn't say Mayweather lost the 2nd fight. I said I had him behind after 6 rounds. perhaps if I go into bold overdrive you might get it.

Mayweather was shit scared to exchange punches. He stayed away and the rematch was a non fight. He put nothing into his punches until the last 3 rounds and was 95% focused on running because JLC kept on cutting the ring off.

Mayweather knew that if he fired more than 1 love tap at a time JLC would be able to counter and land his own brutal shots. But because JLC is methodical and chooses his shots carefully, Mayweather was able to pat and move without taking anything serious in a competitive fight.


if Floyd had faced the wrong opponent - like a Stevie Johnston or Joel Casamayor or definitely Tszyu who he stayed away from - he could well have lost and had a bit of a rude awakening. No need to mention Leonard!

if floyd had faced a johnston or casamayor he would have used just as effective strategies as in castillo rematch...vs JLC, he used the style that worked best for him and pulled it of nicely!!

i think floyd will surprise you at how dedicated, disciplined and determined
he is for everyone of his fights, especially those fights that are MEGAFIGHTS like oscar-PBF!!

In my view, yes Floyd is dedicated to his fitness and craft, but can be very cautious and is a bit overrated for his post Castillo fights.

If Castillo was a bit faster Floyd would've been in big trouble in that 2nd fight. Both men's footwork was faultless - Castillo was cutting off the ring very efficiently but Floyd was that bit faster to get out of the way or to step in & land a quick little shot. Technically both were very good but Floyd is small, fast and very slippery. Whereas Castillo - for all his many qualities - is big & slow.

I think they just didn't happen to be honest. They were in negotiations with Tyszu but Mayweather wanted more money than Hatton and Tyszu was on showtime. Mayweather did talk about Tyszu being 'a 1 handed fighter' before Tyszu got beat and Floyd usually only trash talks someone he thinks hes going to fight them. Mayweather wanted the winner of Hatton-Tyszu - the fight couldn't be made. I'm certain if Tyszu beat Hatton and there wasn't a huge offer from DLH/Mosley Mayweather-Tyszu would have been up next. It was bad for the division and the sport that the winners didn't square off

I'm not sure about the politics with Casamoya and Johnston. I think Casamoya would have been a very competitive fight and I'm sure would cause Floyd problems but Mayweathers since beat a bigger faster slicker southpaw in Judah and hes beat Mitchell. If he was avoiding Casamoya because of style factors would he really have fought those 2 back to back?

Remember about Johnston that Mayweather was still a super-feather and only 1 year into his reign when Johnston got taken from his mantle by Castillo at lightweight. Should Mayweather have defended against Johnston after beating Castillo twice? Perhaps I don't remember if there were calls for the fight at the time. This was also round the period where Mayweather was having all his personal problems I think.

Also lets not forget which fight Mayweather wanted as his first at 140 - Ricky Hatton in Manchester.
