Rudi Pika/Scott Gammer question.

Post by KOJOE90 »

I've heard a few times now Welsh Heavyweight prospect Scott Gammer compared to the undefeated Welsh Heavyweight of the 1980's Rudi Pika.

I've checked out Pika's record and he looked a good prospect, what happened to him? Has anybody got any information on him?

I wish I could tell you more, but I it's all academic anyway. I do remember he hung himself and left behind a wife and kiddies. It was a terrible tragedy. There are still people who will tell you he was 'robbed' against Frank Bruno in the 1980 ABA heavyweight final. It was the biggest ABA final match-up since Mark Rowe and Tom Imrie in the 60s. Wembley was packed to the rafters. Pika fought a solid southpaw fight, but Bruno, who never hurt the tough Welshman, put in a big finish and snatched the majority verdict in a desperately close affair.

Oh wow, I remember him now, it's clicked, never saw him fight but remember reading about his fights and his sad death, I think I recall Bruno sent flowers to the funeral.

Thanks Bennie.

P.S. I go for Gammer on points tonight. Also I won't be too shocked if Enzo gets clobbered either.
