Witter v M'Baye

Post by Max Molyneux »

This would make a great technical fight If It happens! :TU:

Screw Hatton, he's great but he's doing a Tarver with the division.

Won't ever happen. M'Baye only fought Kotelnik because he was a mandatory. The judges had that one covered. I'm 99% sure that M'Baye will be given an undemanding rein from now on because they want to warm that title up for Khan.

Well M'Baye would have to leave Oliver Harrison then for that fight to happen as M'Baye and Khan train together.

Plus Khan thinks he's a Lightweight.

But really Khan has barely been fightng below 140. You can say he's a lightweight going over the weight because there's no titles on the line. (Most of Bernard Hopkins' pre title fights were at 166, as an example.)

Or on the other hand he's a growing young man who's definitely filling out to light welter. Either way I don't think he'll be a lightweight unless there's a big opportunity. I think they lost an opportunity when Earl was beaten.

Money talks. A Khan world title shot in 2 or 3 yrs' time will be huge. Khan would get Oliver Harrison and would know Souley inside out from exposure to him in the gym. I think they'd just bring someone else in for M'Baye.

There are things that can prove me incorrect. Like Warren making big fights for M'Baye. And putting him on main events, not WBU undercards.

Best thing Witter could do with his career: beat Harris, then get M'Baye into the ring before years end. Be a double Light-Welter champ and try to force Hatton into a high profile match.

best wishes

I doubt Witter would beat Harris or M'Baye. I also very much doubt Witter will get any offers for unifications, simply because the fellow doesn't sell and he's bloody awkward. His only real hope of a megafight is Hatton who, unfortunately for Junior, has bigger fish to fry.

I hope I'm wrong. But Witter's reflexes seem long gone. He can still get away with it in a lot of cases, but he might actually come off badly against a fighter as fast & slick as M'Baye.

Mbaye isnt a Oliver Harrison trained fighter

Witter

Post by Box Office »

Witter can not be beat right now, he's the best in that division bar none
he can KO anyone, I think this will be Witters year
Over 12 rounds Harris can't keep up with Junior, He'll stop Harris

Too bad we'll never get the chance to see Witter vs. Hatton,
Hatton's no fool, he knows at this point he also gets KO'ed by Witter.
That's why he will not take the fight, no other reason
He's been making up reasons not to fight for years, "I don't want Witter to make a pay day"-"Witter needs to Win a major Title" he does
"Titles don't matter, I gave up more of them than any man"
Hatton can't have in both ways, he is ducking him

Witter was offered the fight but say's he has "other plans" and he wanted treble what he's ever earned I hear.

And what options were wanted on Witter? What money was Witter offered? Why did Sports Network never make the offer public if they were keen for the fight to happen? If Witter did face Mbaiye surely it would warrant a career high payday anyway?

At the time Hatton fought those fellows they all had more to offer than Junior Witter (like it or not). And would anyone, apart from the most ardent Junophile, rather see Witter/Hatton that JLC/Hatton?

Junior Witter, please step forward!

If he can KO anyone then how come N'dou, Kotelnik and Lynes all went the distance with him?

You reckon? I bet you anything you like Hatton didn't split the purse 50/50 with Urango. I'd also bet you anything Junior thinks his meaningless WBC strap = 50%.
Is Witter a bigger name in the US than Urango? Doubtful. As for the stylistic match-up... again Urango in with Hatton had more potential to be exciting (irrespective of whether it was) that Witter.

Witter knows he wouldnt get 50% against Hatton, I think he'd jump at the chance to get somewhere between 10-20%. Urango got more than he would have with the IBF belt and .

Urangos not a name at all in the US and neither is Witter.

If Hatton wants to save face over the Witter issue he should offer him only the equivilent of his highest payday plus 50-100k, claim there offering Witter a career high payday and if he doesn't take it they can claim they tried to make the fight. I don't know if Witter would take that as its a very small offer to face Hatton - around 150-200k (allot less than Urango/Collazo/Maussa).

As for the match up - boxing fans want it because it woudl be a great fight. A world class pressure fighter and a world class counter puncher/boxer are a good recipe.

From what Witter has said I very much doubt he'd settle for 20% let alone 10!
Witter sat on the WBC mandatory for a long time to get that strap I doubt he'd go into a fight as an underdog to collect pennies.
Urango fights in the US, so I think his profile was and is somewhat higher than Witter's.
As for Hatton saving face! What face? Witter has not had a legit reason to call out Hatton since they were at British title level. Even now it's all about Hatton. Witter just brings nothing to the table! And considering that it would be a domestic match-up that is pretty astonishing.

Witter was exciting on his way up and showed he had good punchpower but its a very different matter at the top and the KO is far more elusive - He is one of the best in the division but certainly not the best - Harris is no mug and Junior would have his work cut out stopping him - As for Hatton he would be too fast for Witter who would be on the backfoot getting a hammering - Why should Ricky fight Witter he is after big paydays in America but should Witter become a big name in the States, the fight could be possible, who knows - If Ricky plans to quit in a couple or three years he will want the best fights he can get before doing so - If Ricky is ducking Witter he has his reasons and it certainly isnt the fear of losing to him - I like most would love to see them in together, so lets just hope it happens one day.

A fight with Witter and Hatton is worth 3 times what Hatton is gettin paid in the US. One more flat performance and Vegas will be over , Go home drum up some interest again by taking on Witter in front of a sold out Stadium 60 000 + , Hatton is ducking Witter!!!

I think you're overstating it a bit. Don't get me wrong, I want to see Hatton take on Witter. But I really don't see how Hatton-Witter is worth 3 times more, financially, than Hatton-Castillo, or even Hatton-Urango. It's only a huge fight in the UK, outside of here it's interesting, nothing more. And I very much doubt it would do 60,000 tickets over here. Benn-Eubank 2 drew a crowd of 42,000, and there's no way you can tell me that Hatton-Witter is a bigger fight.
