MICHAEL MOORER BACK ON FRIDAY!
Crawford Grimsley has been selected to serve as cannon fodder for the 39 year old 2-time heavyweight champion.
At least Moorer, like McCall, is taking his last chance seriously and fighting regularly.
Moorer KO1 Grimsley.

and then get knocked out again.
Moorer is going to get hurt bad. He's got such a porous defence, is undersized for a heavyweight, and relied on his speed and combination punching in his prime.
First heavyweight puncher he faces, is going to give him a spanking.
Rematch with Holyfield anyone? I could see it coming, except that Evander is probably only interested in title shots.

Undersized? A guy of Moorers size is ideal for a heavyweight.jamesmcdonnell wrote: Moorer is going to get hurt bad. He's got such a porous defence, is undersized for a heavyweight, and relied on his speed and combination punching in his prime.
.
A prime Moorer, Holyfield, Tyson, Morrison and co would have a field day with these slow moving ponderous giants. Obviously im aware Moorer is way past his best so is obviously not The Savior for the heavies.
But dont count out Moorer yet!

Moorer is not a natural heavyweight, he doesn't have the chin of a holyfield to back up his stature. Let's not forget that Moorer was a light heavyweight for most of his career.overhand_right wrote:Undersized? Wlad Klithsko would have absolutely mauled Moorer, and I'm not even a big fan of Wlad.
Moorer is completely finished, he was finished years ago. He's old, and was in poor shape during his last abortive comeback. He won't have the speed or conditioning to compete.

Moorer at Light-heavy: 1988-90- 2 years (and would walk around at over 200ibs)jamesmcdonnell wrote: Moorer is not a natural heavyweight, Let's not forget that Moorer was a light heavyweight for most of his career.
Moorer at heavy: 1991-2007- 16 years
As for Wlad K over Moorer... Lol. I dont see any Evander Holyfields or Smokin Bert Coopers on Wlads record. Moorer in his day would have pulverised Wlad at some point.

Christ you're right, I didn't realise his time at light heavy was so brief.
Moorer isn't a natural heavyweight though. I'm sure Bob Foster walked around over 200 lbs too, but that doesn't make you a natural at the weight.
Moorer for me is done. He was done when he got whacked out by Foreman. I know Foreman was a big strong guy, but christ, he was slower than shit through a funnell at that point.

Moorer was class as a light heavy, shame he got beat by the scales . from when he won the WBO light heavy title till giving it up , he fought nearly once every 2 months for 2 years, which is some going. Maybe that was the only way he could keep the weight off, never out of the gym.
And probably why he looked so mean all the time.
As a heavy he was involved in some great fights against Alex Stewart, Bert Cooper. Although never a great Heavywieght he was exciting, and made for good TV

Definetly a heavyweight overachiever. I do think though his victory over Holyfield is more than likely testament to Holyfield's experimentation with exotic substances. That was during a period when Holyfield appeared completely knackered during fights. In the rematch a reinvigorated Holyfield took him apart and battered him to defeat.

I always felt it was a shame that Moorer couldn't have stayed at Light-Heavyweight a little longer and fought Virgil Hill, a fight that was much talked about at the time.
As for the 2007 version of Moorer? I wish him well but sooner rather than later he will get KO'd again, even in this day of less than awesome heavyweights.

I would like to see maybe these old stagers fight each other and maybe the winner could progress to a shot at the WBO title.
Maybe McCall vs Moorer and then Mercer vs Akinwande.
Winners fight and the winner gets Briggs/Ibrahimigov winner.
I do think Moorer's chin will ultimately let him down at 40, but I think he could still give the best a fight untill they tag him. Skills still look there and despite his lack of strength was a very correct puncher.
McCall on the other hand is a more realistic contender - still has a fair whack, still has a chin.

But that was all proven to be complete bollocks. Holyfield couldnt compete with the southpaw style and Moorer whopped him, although in workmanlike typically passionless 'Moorer-style'.topper123 wrote:Was it the Moorer V Holyfield fight, that Holyfield said he may have suffered a minor heart attack during the fight?
Holyfield came back better in the rematch, fairplay, but Moorer still gave him a lot of problems for 5 rds and even rocked him twice, which Tyson failed to do in 15 rds.
