Lockett is seriously treading water with this Blundell fight and in defence of the WBU bauble as well. Either Lockett has found his level or his handlers have litle confidence in stepping him up in class. Blundell is okay but Lockett has been stagnating against tough Africans for too long now. What's the story?

WBU middleweight champion Gary Lockett will make the second defence of his title against Lee Blundell.
The 30-year-old Cwmbran man has been seeking a challenger for the 7 April bout at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium since Darren McDermott's withdrawal.

Southpaw Blundell, 35, is from Wigan and holds a record of 23-4 (13 KOs).

He has won his last six, and in 2002 scored a knockout win over Ryan Rhodes, whom Lockett beat on points in his first defence last July.

The bout will be on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe's WBO super middleweight defence against Peter Manfredo Jr.

Lockett, whose record stands at 28-1 (19 KOs), will be in his first contest since taking Joe's father Enzo Calzaghe as his trainer.

No real story I don't think Steve, clearly just petrified of him getting beaten very soon and making him a few quid before he does.

Yes your right Goz, i am confused as to why he is treading water so much. Every decent test (Rhodes) seems to be met with step sidewards bouts, can't he just ditch the WBU shit and find out how good he is with a British title tilt? I am sure Lockett-Eastman would be a solid clash but we are being deprived of it with matches for false trinkets.

Given his win over Rhodes, I don't think this is such a bad bout.

But his win over Rhodes was 5 years ago and I think that is more a testament to what Ryan was like at the time rather than Blundell being any good. He's now 35 years old and has been fighting journeymen since being beaten in 2 by Bendall. Lockett has been talking a lot about the WBO title, surely he has to beat somebody world rated to warrent a chance? (I know this isn't true but the middle weight division is fairly crowded at the moment and Lockett will have to do something standout to gatecrash it)

Oh yes, its not an outstanding match... my arguement is that Rhodes has really done nothing to warrant be ranked ahead of Blundell.

Isn't the WBO strap still the property of Taylor.

It's barely wothy of the British title at any time, but as the current champion is Howard Eastman, Lockett- Blundell is really eliminator stuff...no more, no less.

This is WBU and Sportsnetwork tripe at it's worst (or best, depending on your perspective).
