I dont tend to do these cross era who was better then who rankings, because it becomes a subjective hair splitting cluster fvck. To try to rank fightrs who's careers span half a century in an exact order is IMO, is silly
Just out of curiosity though, based on their history, and the fact that their careers were connected, how is it you have Marcel 22 spots below Arguello, and Olivares above Marcel ?
Needless to say, I ask because of Marcel's win over Arguello, (Remember, the question was about "featherweights")
Overall I would say Arguello did go on to be the better featherwight after Marcel retired, but 22 notches is a wide margin for a guy Arguello lost to.
I have heard the "Arguello was young and green" story. But since he went on to win the title less then a year later, it doesnt hold water.
I ask about Olivares because he only turned Featherweight in late 72. All his success prior to that was as a flyweight and a Bantamweight. As a Featherweight, he had mixed success at best, and only won the title in a fight for the vacancy created by Marcel's retirement against a fighter who never before or after, fought outside Asia, and Olivares went on to a not so impressive 14-8-2 record as a featherweight
As a featherweight only, Olivares at #32 may still be about right, but IMO, you definatly have Marcel way too low
