I think with Mundines style, those and sharp fast punches would see him outboxing Calazage.

If Mundine goes to Middleweight it would be very interesting, he might just beat Taylor in what would be a big fight for both. Especially as Taylors running out of options for big fights now

As for the Union Jack thing, obviously burning the flag is supposed to be getting back at the lost generation thing. But why not burn an ozzy thing? Then again the Abos have been screwed over by British imperilialism and the Australian ruling classes. I used to chat with an Abo girl on messenger and she saw Mundine as a hero. Lets be honest as a people they've been screwed over big time.

I might be a minority opinion here but as Mundine is a Aborigine/Torres strait Islander why would you be offended if Mundine was slightly hostile
to Britian or the British crown? His people were treated abysmally by the British and the succesive Australian goverments.

Did you know Australians had no rights and were not even considered human beings up until 1967. They were considered 'flora and fauna'

As a British subject myself I couldn't give two wanks if someone burns my flag. What do you think I am? Some thick, hysterical American.

And my money would be on Mundine to beat Calazghe which might make me a minority opinion no2 but at least I'm in good company with

Disgraceful, boxing political hacks not knowing to keep their nose out of what doesn't concern them. They haven't learnt from Muhammad Ali.

If you are for free speech, then you don't go stripping someone of a boxing title because you don't like what they say or represent. Mundines political leanings have nothing to do with the WBA.

Agree with you.... The British government and those in power at the time treated the Aboriginal people in a disgusting manner...

The flag burning is a little childish but hardly a terrible tragedy.

To put it into perspective, imagine this current wave of eastern europeans immigrants (that people seem to complain about all the time) took all our land and left us in the highlands, killed thousands of us and then replaced our flag with another one...... if you then decided to burn that flag would it be so shocking???

I agree with you in I don't think burning flags is terribly mature. But the Aboriginies are so offended by the Union Jack being on the flag so much that they designed their own. if some get solace by burning/wiping their backside on the Union Jack then I'm not going to berate them.

I know on Columbus Day the people of Peru get upset about celebrating aday they and their land got 'discovered' by the Spanish who went on to
colonize, enslave and murder the native people in their millions

A great song about the plight of the aboriginies by the Australian band Midnight Oil which is my favourite song of all time

Listen to the lyrics and watch the video... pure, pure class!

Why didn't they burn the Aussie flag? Australia was Independent by the time the stolen generation was going on.

I agree, Mundine has the style, and may have got good enough, to see off Calzaghe. One of those fights that shold happen, but Calzaghe seems determined to take the lowest profile route.

Don't like the idea of Mundine going down to middle. All the best middles are super middles anyway, they're big enough. Didn't do much for Allan Green the other week, but then again he might not have even bene world class in the first place.

Australian nationhood is a very recent innovation. There was no such thing as an Australian citizen or passport till about 1950 and if anyone knows about Australian politics. The Governer General (who is the Queens
British representative in Australia) dismissed the democratically elected Gough Whitlam Labour goverment on a whim in 1976! So Australian independence from the UK was something of a huge grey area for a long time, probably British enterance into the EEC in 1973 was the first act into breaking ties with dominions.

The Union Jack is part of the Australian flag which includes the Southern Cross. Which signifies that Britian as a power will always be under the southern cross or the Australian skies. A lot of people are upset about this as people such as the Aboriginies who are the native people of Australia. Canada had this problem with their flag and in 1965 they got rid of the Union Jack from their flag and designed the maple leaf flag as the pervious Canadian flag offended people such as the French Canadians and native Canadians who were victims of British colonialization.

Aborigines were treated worse than dogs under the British, the British upper class in Australia used to go 'aboriginie hunting' like you would go hunting for deer. Because they were lower than dogs to the English, they were 'flora and fauna' and the British were in Australia as the official power for over 200 years.

Australia has a lot of immigrants from Greece, the former Yugoslavia but
mostly Croatia, Italy, Vietnam, Leabanon, Germany. Along with the
Aborigines they just don't see the Union Jack as a representative of them and why should they? I don't agree with burning a flag but I can see why the Aboriginies would.

As much as I respect Mundine's boxing, he can be a bit of a twat. He looks to me like one of those typical Hip Hop bad boys with a chip on his shoulder. I guess that's how he communicates what he's feeling about us Brits doing our best to oppress him.

I think if he came over here to fight Calzaghe it'd be a really hyped fight, though there could be riots afterward, because Mundine is an inflammatory kind of bloke!

Just another windging millionaire. As I understand it he doesn't actually do any work to help the Aboriginal community, if he did I'd be far more inclined to listen to his political views.

No matter, Canada is as much theirs as it is the British and both have to bend at the knee of the native Canadians. But an interesting aside is that I think it is something like 45% of French Canadians have some native Canadian ancestry.

And it wouldn't be the French flag anyway, it would be the Fleur de Lys.

mundine has a special motivation behind his willingness to fight in other countries!! it gives him an excellent opportunity to spy out important landmarks---bridges, skyscrapers, etc---to be marked as potential targets for his terrorist cohorts!!

thankfully not all aggressive Muslims are terrorists. But it's this kind of crap that makes Amir Khan a "role model", who can "unite Muslims," allegedly.

How about Mundine & Khan for contrast? Mundine the abrasive, colourful fighter who takes risky opponents and has done since years 1 & 2 as a pro.

Khan, meanwhile, the superbore, who isn't allowed to fight anyone good.

Not quite, there was more post war mass immigration from the UK to Canada and British immigration to Canada today is still strong, The Quebecois and the Acanadiens are mostly descended from the original French settlers thus why they have a high percentage of native Canadian blood. Between 1871 to present there has been about 200,000 French
immigrants to Canada. From that time to the present there has been
more than 2 million British immigrants to Canada.

It was the French navy that helped the american revolutionary army beat the British in 1776 and held us to a draw in 1812 so we didn't go unbeaten against the French in north America!

Doesn't one of the Aussies on here work with underprivileged Aboriginal families? I'm sure I remember him saying that he'd been in touch with Mundine several times asking if he'd turn up and give the kids a little talk, and Mundine had never replied. If that's true then it's a poor showing.

For me Cathy Freeman showed the best way forward. By accepting what has happened in the past as unchangeable, encouraging both forgiveness and understanding, and promoting unity within communities. She didn't feel the need to resort to inflammatory and unnecessarily showy gestures like flag-burning, because she's intelligent enough to see how that might turn people against a worthy human rights cause. Mundine, for me, lacks that intelligence, and tries to make up for it by being loud. Empty vessels and all that.

Good fighter, but bit of a prick.Pretty much sums up Mundine.

He is entitled to burn what he likes in my eyes.
But the British flag, will only leave me hoping someone knocks him spark out...AGAIN.

As for him beating Calzaghe....hmmmmm,interesting...

Yeah but why is Khan is role model? Like I say, when ppl see a Mundine coming out with all that crap they can say to themselves "Ooh, isn't Amir a nice boy, that's how they should all behave".

It's only in contrast to an overzealous Mundine type then Khan is good. Many would say he's boring, talks gibberish, and beats up small opponents.

Mundine takes risks, he's had defeats but he's learned a heck of a lot, hence the 2 dominant wins over world class Aussies over the last year.

Right now Khan's drawing more because of his Olympic pedigree. I've never known why an Olympic medal has so much stock in pro boxing. Can no one see through the matchmaking? Probably cos millions watched him on free TV and gushing newspaper articles keep him a brand name.

But I think he'd have to start taking risky foes.

you brits tend to be somewhat hard on your young prospects!! in most places---certainly in america---being a role model has more to do with character, both in and out of the ring!! though khan may not be providing the most ambitious career model in terms of fighting tough opposition, his very noble and patriotic gesture of carrying the union jack into his high profile forum in the boxing ring A FEW DAYS AFTER 7/7/05, the closest you've had to our 9/11!!

how can you not admire that in every sense of the word?!? :o scumbag mundine on the contrary, not only expressed sympathy and support for the serpents that pulled off 9/11, but now burns the union jack in a video!! if that doesnt painfully illustrate a lack of character (or the presence of reptilean character), what would it take for you to question this fool's character?!? in the view of most, madman mundine has clearly earned his pathetic status on the character chart right below convicted rapist mike tyson!!

even in terms of ambition in the ring, mundine was 25 at his pro debut and had to step up rapidly because lack of amateur career had him already way behind schedule!! sure, he fought for world title in 11th bout---fortunately getting iced by light-hitting ottke...but khan was only 19 starting as a pro and needs to adjust to the pro style, so has plenty of latitude in easing into the pro ranks!! his cautious, methodical approach to is geared toward gaining low-risk experience---would he be better served by the reckless pace of olympic gold medalist david reid, who stepped up too rapidly and was shot after about 20 pro bouts?!?

i believe alot of the heat directed at amir is actually well-earned hostility aimed at his promoter warren!! but even then, you have to consider the end game which is intended to garner him a big splash in america and a HOF legacy!! contrast that to the verbally reckless mundine, who will probably never even be allowed to fight in the usa, based on his incendiary pro-terrorist statements and actions!! his only appearance in much more liberal canada was 2 months BEFORE 9/11...

bottom line on the character issue...which one would you rather have dating your sister/daughter or living next door? khan or mundine?!?
