With the SN vs Contender and Calzaghe's title defense v reality bloke Manfredo, and HBO coverage of Calzaghe, it's clear he's been wanting to get some American money.
Interestingly, in his latest column, http://www.allegedly.tv/drill/News/Ar ... e-man.html Warren says that having an American accent doesn't make you world class and that US isn't the only market...then goes on to talk about all the money they make in Germany.
Obviously we already know all about that, but I get the impression that this is leading to something. Warren conceded Danny Williams isn't shot and says he's ready to challenge EBU champ Virchis...Calzaghe-Berrio might be on the cards which none of us really want...
But does anyone think that some kind of deal with Sauerland or Universum might open Calzaghe & other SN'ers to some intriguing fights? Sauerland have Berrio, Larsen, Beyer. This sounds pretty good, hopefully something comes of it.
Warren & US/German markets
I'll be pissed off bigtime if Warren does target Berrio after Manfredo. TBH I think Manfredo gets abit too much stick because he was on the contender but he's the only fighter from that reality show to make a name for himself by knocking out 2 decent SMWs in impressive fashion, plus he did beat Mora in the rematch...He has improved with Roach so I think he does deserve his top 10 Ring ranking, just. So I'm not too bothered with the Manfredo fight since most of the other SMW's were/are busy and with HBO's involvement.
A Virchis/Williams & Calzaghe/Berrio doubleheader does make good sense from a promoter's point of view but I'll be praying it doesn't happen, and I don't think it will with Haussler, Beyer and Larsen as likely foes for Berrio.
Does anyone know when Calzaghe's contract with Warren expires?...

I'd think though that having a German connection could be good. Calzaghe's biggest payday was the Veit rematch and Joe showed he could fight well abroad.
Surely that was a BIG event in Germany?
Don King hooked up in Germany for the heavyweights. Surely if Warren, say, had some kind of agreement vs Sauerland that would open up A LOT of interesting opponents for the likes of Calzaghe, Maccarinelli...
Sauerland have some very interesting fighters, of European and world class. For instance, Beyer, Larsen, Berrio, Huck, Valuev, Ruiz, Abraham,
(I have to say, Universum seem far less compelling, i.e. Chagaev, Sturm, Erdei though they do have Inkin).
Fights in Germany with any kind of title on the line seem to draw a lot of viewers. It's bad for national promoters to be hermetic and restrict foreign channels. I always felt boxing could grow with an exchange from country to country.
At super middle and cruiser, there are actually limitations when dealing with the Americans. Boxing simply isn't big in those divisions in America. Would love to see some kind of German connection, as we'd get a lot more big matchups for UK fighters.
