ali over rated
Ali in my opinion was vastly over rated and would have trouble winning a WBO title today. Reasons being
too small
no defence
fought too many stiffs
rudimentry skills where lacking

Ali wasn't over-rated. His achievements speak for themselves. But, there is some assets he didnt posess; he wasnt a good infighter, he didnt have alot of power, he could be set up for punches if someone really watched him and knew what to do---but he made up alot of times for his losses, he could improvise even in toughest situations, could take a punch and had great reserves of energy that would come out of nowhere.
Nobody these days could give him the kinda hell Frazier, Norton, Foreman and Shavers did.

But remember, to some who have posted on Ali in the past, all of that is secondary.
What really matters according to them, is that he was a "racist" (as if that is even possible) he hated light skinned blacks, dark skinned blacks, all whites, was a draft dodger (Right along with most of the Bush administration) cheated on his wife, hated dogs, picked his nose, didnt recycle, had unpaid parking tickets, and pissed on the toilet seat.
To them , THAT is what really matters !
And..oh yeah, anyone who thinks otherwise has just watched to many ESPN documentaries !
Yeah, thats it !

This is true and I have to agree.BERNARD BRIGGS. wrote:Ali in my opinion was vastly over rated and would have trouble winning a WBO title today.
Ali is as sick man in his mid 60's whom has trouble walking great distances these days, which would make him an easy target for the likes of Valuev, Briggs and many other of todays top Heavyweights.
we should have a little 10 point quiz to decide if people are allowed on here.
How the eff was Ali over-rated? Someone tell me in a PROPER thought out post...... No? because he is not.
Excellent hand speed, great technique, good footwork.
Would beat Klitschko, Briggs and Maskaev.
If he did not beat Valuev it would be nothing to do with being over-rated, it would be Valuevs size...
If thats your opinion mate then fair play to you.

Did you take your medication before posting this nonsense?
I'm sure this is simply trolling. Apparently not even this forum is immune to the current rash of nonsense. It's premise is so outlandish I am inclined to lock it. But I'll leave it be. So far it is simply a stated viewpoint which probably has the right to exist.
Most anyone who could master the keys well enough to write this would also be aware that it is pure rubbish. Unless it is the work of a typing "savant".

>>>Don't we get this thread about every four months on this forum?<<<
I've seen where threads like this come from! Some kid is usually talking with their father, who himself knows nothing about boxing, and dad says...all Ali did was run from opponents, which dad most likely heard this from one of his clueless buddies and decided to take the stance...and from that the kid makes the kind of comments like the thread-starter here!!!

Reminds me of something that happened to me when I was about 18. I was in hospital recovering from an operation, 48 hours of lying in bed with minimum movement allowed etc.barry wrote:>>>Don't we get this thread about every four months on this forum?<<<

In the same ward as me there were three blokes all in there 60's, they started talking about Henry Cooper. The topic of the first Ali fight came up. The three then had a long discussion about if Ali hadn't had 15 minutes to recover from the knockdown Cooper would have been crowned Heavyweight Champion of the World that night.
From my bed I shouted over to them and as polite as I could tried to point out the many, many errors in there statements. But they were not interested I was just a young teenager who wasn't even alive when the fight happen so knew nothing.
They just didn't want to listen to me, they were older than me so knew best.
Valuev would be the easiest, he's complete garbage. His size wasn't much of an issue against Larry Donald, an older fringe contender with a basic set of skills, yet Valuev had to be given a gift decision. Ali would pepper him and Valuev wouldn't land much of anything.Mikee wrote:we should have a little 10 point quiz to decide if people are allowed on here.

Briggs, Klitschko and Maskaev are all more than Valuev.

Re: re
The way I heard it was that it was just about sundown when Henry knocked Cassius down and Dundee snookered the ref into calling the fight on account of darkness, Ali was then given all night to rest while Henry was forced to wait in his corner......after a full nights rest Ali was ushered back into the ring and the two men then picked up the fight from the knockdown.KOJOE90 wrote:Reminds me of something that happened to me when I was about 18. He is and he isn't. His record his nonsense. He got more gift decisions than anyone in history, but name another Heavyweight that has big wins over other good champions: Liston, Frazier and Foreman. I understand the hate, but don't confuse that with thinking Ali wasn't good. That is nonsense. He is a very boring fighter though in the ring although he was larger than life outside of it.
