I certainly did, but this is what makes great fights.

If there is a rematch, I have the feeling that Marquz will get to him.

Watching the fight again now. I CAN see the temptation to score for MAB, because he "tidies up" rounds so well. He can make a bad round look good because he can get into a rhythm, can close a round well...that's the main reason I made him the winner vs Morales 3.

But I just love JMM's combos and jolting shots.

Both fighters have aged, but because they are total masters they can cope with it as they still produce pure class.

The rounds were so close so I don't have a problem with Marquez winning. But because they were close when barrera lands those clean left hooks and fights hard for the last 30seconds it edges over some close rounds to MAB for me.

Barrera looks much physically older for me than Marquez. He needs road work at altitude and lots of it if hes going to comeback.

Fights like these that cause debate and guarantee rematches. I'm not sure MAB wants one at this stage. He's been able to win so easy (Fana, Peden, Juarez 2) and this might not be good for him.

Fine, fine boxer & an easy all time great. But I think JMM is just raxor sharp. He's had the practise vs the classy boxers (John, Polo) and had to fight a pace with those two kamikaze lefties (Jaca, Jandaeng).

I wonder what the PPV #s are. If they are high, will Barrera be able to resist a rematch?

I would prefer to see Marquez in with Pacman, getting annoyed of all the Pacman fans of late talking about his invinsibility, Pacman wasn't just getting outboxed against Marquez he was getting HURT. I'm not sure if Marquez has enough left to beat him, I doubt Barrera does.

Pacman/Arrum look like they are really going to screw the end of this era up for us. Who are they going to fight at 130 if they don't want Golden Boys Marquez/MAB/Guzman? Sotto? Chi? Morales 4? Vallero? All sub standard compared to what should happen

What did Morales-Pacman fights mean in the first place? Morales was fresh off a loss to MAB, beat Pacman and then lost to Raheem. We need Marquez-Pacman 2 before any other fight at 130.

Certain punches give MAb the most problems, straight fast 1-2s give him the most problems because he wants to throw his left hook. MABs right hand is a weakness, its good just not good enough to coutner those fast 1-2s. This has been a problem against Junior Jones, Morales, Pacman and Marquez. When he had the stamina to go forward and unleash combinations he could get away with it some more

Don't sleep on Soto. The man is brilliant and he whipped Juarez. Soto si fresh, powerful and smooth as butter. Beautiful boxer - I'm sure with bigger exposure ppl will recognise him as an integral part of a great 130 pounds.

He looks like the kind of JMM fighter who would get overlooked, so I'm glad Arum has put so much stock in him. Sot is more skilled than Pac, hits way harder than MAB/JMM.

Seeing the fight again, yes I can see the case for MAB for his smoothness and his exceptional pacing. He's like a painter cleaning up a messy canvas (the mess being the punches he takes, in this case!). However, still prefer Marquez's more dynamic work and I have JMM doing a bit better over the final third.

I really wanted to see MAB win but I have to conceed Marquez was just too well conditioned at this stage. It really was relentless boxing for most of the 12 rounds.

Brilliant fight, just brilliant. The 7th was incredible. Barrera showed great endurance to soak it all up and still have the last word...but then blotted his copy book with an outrageous foul. Marco really let himself down in the post fight interview too. He was beaten out of sight by Marquez and he knew it. He's a legend alright, but seems to have forgotton he's not the judge and jury too. Shades of J.C.Chavez towards the end of his career.

I thought Marquez was magnificant and proved he'd been kept out of premier division for too long. No wonder Naz ducked him every which way when Juan was his mandatory

Barrera acted like he'd put himself on a pedestal. I agree, Marquez was hitting him too hard, JMM's punches were way better despite MAB's polish.

Foul was disgusting and I can't stand it how Barrera fans are using it as an excuse to say Barrera was robbed!

Well, Marquez obviously felt he was worth more. Career high purse doesn't equal a fair pay day. Warren is a master at making it look like it's the other guys fault for fights falling through.

The point is Marquez was mandatory for an excessive lenght of time and should have been accomadated. It's clear to me why he wasn't.

Yes but Hamed fought the WBC champ Soto to make him a linear champ who had won WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO, instead of fighting Marquez who was an obscure face back then. Marquez was offered a fight, who knows what the business details were.

The fact remains Marquez has srewed his own career up by pricing himself out against Hamed and the rematch with Pacman and losing to Norwood and John. Beating a near shot MAB doesn't mean he'd have beat 1999/2000 Hamed

The foul was bad and deserved a point deduction but the ref screwed Barrera over by not ordering MAB to a neautral corner when Marquez went down. Its easy to call a foul disgusting but in the heat of the moment where your coming back from nearly been ko'd yourself you go for the kill.

The fight was close and you obviously prefer Marquezs work I prefer MABs work and his late round work I felt nicked him the rounds.

Barrera shot? Nonsense. Marquez is a superb boxer. Don't lose perspective just because Marco lost a fight.

I had Juan winning BIG, but that's not to say Barrera didn't compete well. The scorecards were spot on IMO, by they don't always reflect the other guys effort and this was case here I feel.

On another night Barrera will probably beat any Superfeather in the world, but at this stage of his career, can he bothered to prove people wrong who are too hasty with their judgements? He's not shot though, you just wouldn't be able to push a boxer of Marquez's calibre that hard if he was.

To me, the result is more to with rising to the occasion and Barrera didn't rise high enough, Marquez did.

Glad to see Marquez finally get the big one. He deserves it. I had the fight 8-4 first viewing and 7-5 second viewing. He just looked like he wouldn't be denied. Textbook fight, definitely the 130-pound version of Toney-McCallum 1 because everything was done so skilfully and was heaped with drama.

I think the foul took a lot out of him. He may have closed better if not for that, though we can't be sure because the KD punch was excellent.

Anyone think the judges took the piss out of PENALOSA? This man is as good as ANYONE at 115 and 118 in the past 20 years, and he had great defense + clean punching vs Ponce. I had Ponce winning 115-113, no more.

1. I had Barrera winning

2. If you don't think Barrear was shot you haven't followed him very long. His workrate and number of punches he throws was way down. He used to throw combinations throughout the round and now can only do it at the end of the round. His legs have gone, no bounce whatsoever. If Barrera still had the stamina to fight 3 miniutes of a round he would have ko'd Marquez.

I've followed him closely for as long as I can remember, particularly since the McKinney classic. A poor assumption on your part. Clearly he's not the same boxer he was when was in his early twenties, but other aspects of his game had improved two fold.

"IF" Barrera had thrown more punches per round his energy levels would not have held out the same as they did in this fight. Marquez was ready to punish Marco's mistakes, which Marquez has done well for years, which is why Barrera was reluctant to throw too many combinations and also looked to break off the exchanges.

I thought Glen McCrory took this loss badly, but he's clearly not the only one having trouble coming to terms with it and at least he didn't have Barrera winning :o

I don't agree with shot. If he was shot he'd not have the timing to make his boxing work - at all. He still outclassed world class if limited Peden (who twice stopped Nate Campbell) and Juarez (2nd time). But he was in against an inspired technician with fast hands here, which really exacerbated things and probably sent him into further decline.

Physically deteriorated, yes. But ppl have been saying that to some degree ever since aftre the 1st Morales fight.

Who knows who'd have won before? Barrera has misjudged his boxing before, as in Morales 2, and in earlier days Marquez was less prone to "going for it."

What Barrera did last night, and in fact all his 130 title defenses, pisses on just about any of the "old school" boxing Hopkins has done.

Terrence, I can't believe people are saying Barrera is "shot". That's ludcrious IMO. He may be slipping in aspects of his game, but his experience gets greater and greater.

He was always going to get tagged a lot against Marquez, because Marquez is a precise and accurate puncher, even at this level. I think it's a shame some appear to be watering down a brilliant win for Marquez.

Barerra has never been quite the same since the first Morales fight, of that I am in not doubt - but agree with Terrence and The Butch's view in the fact that some aspects of his game have improved. I think though the 3rd Morales fight showed then when he tries to fight as he did pre 2000, he just cannot sustain it.

I scored the fight for Marquez by 1 or 2, but no complaints had it gone either way and the 7th round was very controvesial. A definate 10-8 and possibly 10-7 round to Marquez should have been 9-9 or maybe even 9-8 to Barerra, had the ref scored the count along with docking the point (and yes, Barerra was right to have a point docked for the foul).

I think the Butch is a bit harsh with Barerra's post fight comments, Yes I agree that Barrera showed a lack of respect and was a bit of a bad loser - but to say he was "beaten out of sight", that was a close close fight that could have gone either way - I don't care watch the judges said. I think Barrera had every right to think that he won, cause a case could be made.

Marquez joins the great bracket with that win now IMO. However, I think it also showed that 7 years ago Barrera would have been a fair amount too good and do you know what - I'd even tip him in a rematch.

However, I'd like to see him move up and create a bit of history.

Yeah I agree, Barrera had taken a battering, at it looked like the desperate act of man being handed a life line as he was just about to drop over the edge. Plus he obviously wouldn't have been thinking too clearly after taking all those shots...

still I thought JJM looked a clear enough winner, and I had no doubt MAB was gonna complain about being robbed - he was doing that right back to the two Jr Jones fights ( first time I think it was his corner's fault for leaping in to the ring too early )

Scoring the fight corectly and calling the obvious knockdown that Nady missed i had the fight 114-113 for Barrera but the rules state you have to be instructed by the referee even if he is a clueless tool...so the fight ends up 115-113 for Marquez on my card.

The officiating was appalling imo and somethings needs to be done about that. But i don't have a major problem with Marquez getting the win cos it was such a close competitive fight that could have gone either way.

1. marquez was a clear winner in a superb closely fought fight in which marquez initiated most of the attacks, and came off better in most of the exchanges. No less than 3 points for me.

2. I dont think barrera is shot. he may be on the decline but still has a lot to offer.

3. even if this fight had taken place three years ago barrera would have had a serious problem with marquez as barrera would have been much more aggressive and as we all know marquez is a supreme counter puncher as we seen with the way he nullified pacquaios furious attacks.

4. The punch he landed while marquez was on the floor was worth at least a couple of points deduction. Only marquez's class and willingness to fight on stopped him from being disqualified

5. whether or not he would have beaten him, marquez would have always given a fighter like hamed problems due to his counter punching.

6. All in all it was a brilliant well matched fight by two of the best boxers in the game. It was always going to be a close one to chose a winner ala corrales-castillo.

7. Anyone defending barrera for his actions in the 7th, and had him winner are simply scoring with their hearts and not their heads.

Barrera has always been one of my favourite boxers but marquez came out of this one shining with class. :TU:

Let's carry on giving JMM some credit. He got up from a hard shot that scrambled him AFTER a heavy knockdown. Got up to win. Remember the Jaca fight, where JMM's cut, and Cole says "You're ahead on the scorecards", basically telling him you can quit & you'll win a TD? This guy's a warrior. And he has tonnes of skill, as seen in the John (robbery), Polo, Salido, Pacquiao, Peden fights.

Marquez throws the straighter sharper punches. If MAB left it too late in his career to be able to beat him, it's his own damn fault. That just made Marquez more hungy, and he put more into the fight.

ALL the press at ringside had it AT LEAST 8-4 to JMM, some had it wider. Difference was, JMM's shots were better.

Perhaps if Barrera's younger, Barrera takes more chances & Marquez punishes him for it. No one can be sure.

MAB is supremely polished, compact, wise, relaxed, fluid & for my money one of the best fighters to watch even when he's not waging war. He's easily the best Mexican since Chavez and may rank higher than even JC. But Marquez may always be wrong for him.

Any stage of their careers it's an even money fight. You'd have to say JMM, being the overlooked fighter, has the mental edge - he'll always want it more, whereas MAB would always have half a mind that 'I didn't need to be here.'

If the have a rematch, look for Barrera to get a sick beating after the halfway point.
