Oh yeah, he had the chances but I think he was a bit tempromental and left the coach that did brought that he had for the Oliver fight and the IBO title way too soon.Twinkle Toes wrote:Unfulfilled potential?
I wouldn't go that far Stu, he had his chances and he found his limit at British level.
He was knocking them out and started to train differently to focus on the power.
Oliver won the EBU title handily just a few fights after the Mullings fight, so I think Mullings showed the POTENTIAL to be at least EBU class himself, because he far from disgraced himself at that level - and was improving too... untill one drab (by his standards) performance and he changed coaches.... Mullings deteriorated rapidly.
I geniunally think the three up and coming Super Bantamweights at that time all had the potential to be WORLD CLASS. Mullings had dremendous power, good stamina and a good chin. Many people tipped him to beat Oliver in a rematch, this is when he went through a good patch immediately post Oliver. I'm not sure if I would have gone that far (I think Oliver was the bees knees), but he certainly would have given him an heck of an arguement - and I think beaten Brodie.
