Yes, I've just changed the question to, 'Which British heavyweight prospect of the 1970's managed the group, The Jam?' The guy was a top amateur who turned pro with a lot of fanfare in 1978. Unfortunately, he was found to have a fragile chin. But he had a lot of talent in and out of the ring.MightyWarrior wrote:bennie wrote:Wrong forum.Braindrain wrote:Giant haystacks.![]()
Was it a Brit heavyweight? Joe Bugner??!
That's a surprise to me.bennie wrote:Joe Awome.lamphey wrote:I thought Paul Weller's father (forget his name) managed The Jam. Don't remember him being a Boxer though.
Curious to see the answer now.
Wasn't it Awome who went crashing headfirst through the ropes with his opponent sending commentator Harry Carpenter into fits of laughter on Sportsnight?
Yes, he had that famous through the ropes 'moment' with Manny Gabriel. Check out his record on BoxRec and there's a short biography of his life inside and outside the ropes.lamphey wrote:That's a surprise to me.bennie wrote:Joe Awome.lamphey wrote:I thought Paul Weller's father (forget his name) managed The Jam. You know, I actually saw Joe just off London's Oxford Street in the 90's and was about to say 'hello', but didn't quite get round to it. He was looking well. Then a few months later I read he had died from a brain tumour. I really wished I had spoken to him.
