New Boxing Website

Hope its OK to plug but I have a new boxing website bringing free boxing films to boxing fans.

Firstly thanks for allowing the plug on here, it's appreciated.

Uploaded today is a must for any ex-servicemen and a cracking fight for all boxing fans. Filmed at Wellington Barracks this is Army Boxing, a 3x2 minute contest between Gdsm Potts and Gdsm Roberts. It has all the pomp and circumstance of the Army, pipes to lead the lads in, top brass handing out the trophies, full uniforms, the lot. It's a cracking contest with both lads giving their all, I'm not sure I would have given it to the winner but it was very close so see what you think.

When you look at the site I hope the sense behind it appears. For example, I could have been at the Froch presser, filmed it, edited it and you could be watching it now.... but the invite must have been held up in the post

I'm ready to work so let us be clear. We don't have to look at photos and read quotes alone, we can now give me an invite to pressers and watch the actual words fall out of the actual mouths with the actual expressions on the actual faces on actual internet film! All for Free!

On a tekky note, I'm being told that the .mov files are crystal clear but the .mpg files are a bit blokky. I do my editing on a Mac and I'm looking for some software to convert DV to WMV. Any ideas? I won't put the Mac on the net because I don't want to infect anyone with a virus so it has to be something I can transfer by disk. Thanks.

I'm not a big company looking to shaft you, I'm a boxing fan with a few filming skills looking to bring the sport some more life. I hope I become a millionare or at least be able to tell the wife I've recouped the outlay (the latter being my real ambition)

This time next year we could be millionaires Rodders..

Try and get round the gyms of Manchester, Sheffield and London and bring us some sparring sessions from the best pros. I am sure that would encouarge traffic to your site??

Hi Stepper - please allow me to give some constructive feedback.

What's the main purpose of your website - to show boxing footage or to make money?

If it's the latter option I wish you luck however, boxing websites are notorious for not making money - unless you have a 24 hour updated website like Seconds Out or British Boxing then people are going to have no real reason to return to your website on a daily basis.

I run a couple of boxing websites but I don't try and generate any real income from them as I cannot commit full time to just one website. I have also been invloved in a couple of websites that have had a lot of time and money put in to gain nothing.

Yes, you are going to have boxing video's on there, but from what I have seen you seem to be using YouTube to host your footage. This doesn't look professional if you want to make money from the site - also using Rapidshare is a bad move as people will have to pay to download the video's.

Please don't think promoter's are going to be too forthcoming with someone waving a camcorder about - they don't always want the world to see their fighters in training/preparation - there is also the copyright problem to overcome.

Please don't take these comments the wrong way - I am simply trying to save you time and money investing in something that is allready freely available in this day and age on the 'net.

Thanks for your comments, it's what it's all about.

Money? I doubt it, it's tongue in cheek about being a millionaire, it's pretty much tongue in cheek about making any money at all but I love the sport and have been making boxing films for the past couple of years, I enjoy it.

Let me take your points in turn.

1) I don't use youtube to host my films, I use youtube to give people a flavour of the film hosted on rapidshare and megaupload. The films on youtube are poor quality but they are easily watched and provide a very brief highlight of the full film available which are in a pretty decent quality on Megaupload and Rapidshare. Not everyone will want to see every film so the youtube film is like the taster.

2) Rapidshare and Megaupload host the full films free. OK, you have to look at their adverts but you get the film free.

3) Promoters may not wish to invite my camera into their training sessions and I have no problem with that but when they want a boxer to call out an opponent, or announce their next fight or just tell people who they are, how much more exciting is it to watch them do it on film? Just a few hours after they have said it? I'm not in competition with the boxing news websites, I compliment them.

4) I don't wave a camcorder about.... I wave a broadcast quality digital DV camera about

5) I'm as happy to visit a local boys club, an upcoming prospect, a major star at a presser... whatever.

The internet will overtake television in a decade, this is what it's all about.

Yes States I'm in the wrong country to make money but I'm in the country in which I was born which is out of my hands.

I missed a very important point made by Koomey... copyright.

The fact of the matter is that if I film it and hold the film, then I own the copyright. Fact.

This is very interesting because let's say for an example a boxer wants to place some information into the public domain. Say, next fight or retirement or injury or cussing a prospective opponent or whatever, normally it's a presser and an e-mail to the agencies. Nothing for the boxer.

How about calling me in, I film the news, put it on the website and nobody can touch it without paying. We do a deal, and you make money from your news. It's not difficult.

Not true - if you take photo's or film footage at a boxing event it remains the copyright of the event promoter (unless prior agreement AND payment is made to the promoter) - trust me I know this is the law in the UK.

I agree - if you want to pull this off and look professional then you need a crisp, clear, slick design....

True, but it's free and I can't see me making more than two films per 24 hours so it's not a problem. If I ever do you can get one film from Rapidshare and one from Megaupload.

I sense an agenda here. I'm not a web designer I'm a film maker. I've got a book about web design and made a basic functional website that does what it says on the tin. Delivers free films. I don't expect anyone to hang around at the site but I hope they will hang about watching the films. I've been reading a bit about the great Nobby Nobbs. He says this of his gym "We have running water here... down the walls" and "I ask pepole to wipe their feet... on the way out" It's the same with my website, wipe your feet on the way out.... hopefully clutching a decent boxing film.

True, but I'm not expecting to film at a televised event. I've done it before and it is really a waste of film because I can't use it. If a Small Hall promoter wants to give some exposure to a young fighter then the site offers a worldwide platform or a presser needs some realtime film etc etc.

As for the use of youtube, well I'm sticking by it. You can watch a 1 minute edit in grainy blokky out of sync film and decide if you want to bother downloading the 80mb+ file, which is great quality as a .mov and I must accept only average quality as an mpg. I'm working on that.

STATES: County, sorry I mis-read that. I have a car, taxed, insured, MOT'd and ready to go. I'm in the centre of the Country so everywhere it a bit of a journey, but hey.

On Monday 27th March the cameras of 3pboxing.co.uk were invited to Ian Pauleys gym in Peterborough. There, I met and interviewed the boxers involved in the Holiday Inn Promotion, Peterborough scheduled for Friday 30th March (sold out). Top of the bill Cello Render W12 (7KO). L3. D0 discusses his unusual entry to the sport at cruiser, the nature of his KO victories, his past two opponents and his late change of opponent for Friday. Boxing cousins Neil McQuade and Tony "baby face" McQuade also discuss their upcoming bouts on Friday. Neil is looking to capitalise on his win last time out and turn around his W1 L4 D1 record. Tony gives a perspective from a boxer with a W0 D1 L0 record and of course talks about his nickname. On Friday 30th March '07 I was invited to film the boxing at promoter Ian Pauly's event at the Holiday Inn, Peterborough. Before I start shamelessly plugging the free downloads at my website I'd just like to say what a great night out it was. Really well organised, friendly with a boxing show and live band to finish. At £65 a ticket, which includes a meal, it's a very decent night out and you can take the better half. Well done all concerned.

Tony McQuade starts his second professional fight against debutant Gavin Deacon. Sometimes the least likely looking match can tun out to be a gem. This fight is indeed a gem, well worth a watch.
Neil McQuade vs Gavin Deacon
These two have met before and Deacon came out with the nod. McQuade blames the "away boxer" rule but he has home advantage tonight. Will it be retribution?

FYI - I wanted some video hosted and found streamline.net to be really cheap and fast - although I think that this was limited to 500MB or so..
