Imagine Damean Kelly winning the IBF flyweight title in Colombia on Saturday week! On the same night Ricky Hatton defends his WBU title in Manchester against lightweight spoiler Aldo Rios. Call me a bitter old man, but I'd love to see Kelly win just to upstage Sports Network. It would serve them right for offering what I see as an insulting match to the boxing public (as opposed to Man City fans).
There's a problem. Kelly faces a man who has never lost in his entire career and has been champion since 1999. And no British pro has ever fought in Colombia before...
Can Damaen Kelly make Ricky Hatton look oh so protected?

Guys, I've heard some news on Pacheco.
I've never seen him before so I asked guys from another board what is he like.
The general consensus (these are from guys who haven't seen Kelly) is that a slick boxer can quite easily outbox him
. However, he's said that Pacheco can carry his power late in the fight.
From my description of Kelly people were picking Pachecco on a Controverisal (Columbia) decision.
But, Kelly's got a chance.

Here's the post from a very knowledge Canadian friend of mine.
You've seen Kelly and not Pacheco; I've seen Pacheco but not Kelly, so perhaps between the two of us we can make some sense out of this matchup.
Pacheco is quite tall for a flyweight and generates a lot of leverage on his shots, often thrown quite wide. He is somewhat robotic and can be outboxed, but he carries his power late. He is on the wrong side of 30, has not been very active over the past few years, and was very fortunate to retain his title against the unspectacular Hawk Makepula. His handlers are hoping to put him in a unification fight with Eric Morel before it's too late.
My gut feeling is that if Kelly can take a punch, this has a good chance of being a controversial decision loss for him.
To be honest - bearing the consistent refusal to match Hatton credibly - I am starting to wonder if Hatton's handlers know something we don't.
He is the fast and furious type of fighter who is likely to have a short explosive career, he is struggling more and more to make Lt-Wtr and yet is being found dull and uninteresting opponents in a division so stuffed with exciting (and a good few BEATABLE) fighters that its untrue.
Confusing - I don't see any great leaps in Hatton's learning anymore and I don't consider him any kind of novice - if anything he is nearing his peak and IMO the next five fights SHOULD represent the biggest fights of his career!!
So what do we get? Aldo (who hell he) Rios.

After he beats Rios (as opposed to 'if'), he fights again in December. The opponent they pick for him then will tell us more about what Sports Network really think of Hatton's ability.Lugh wrote:To be honest - bearing the consistent refusal to match Hatton credibly - I am starting to wonder if Hatton's handlers know something we don't.

Jimmy has already declared that they know Hatton is beatable in true world class.

Call McCoy an old bitter Tom Jones lookalike, but he agrees with Bennie completelybennie wrote:Imagine Damean Kelly winning the IBF flyweight title in Colombia on Saturday week!
