Claus Bertino... time to take notice?

Post by stujones »

I've seen most (maybe all) of Bertino's proffesional fights and to be honest I haven't thought that much. He is big lad, but didn't seem to have any special qualities.

However, I think a first round win over compatriat, Stefan Neilson (who announced his retirement) must be noted. Neilson is a decentish operator, probably around the equivelent of Scott Gammer in terms of levels (maybe a bit below, above the likes of Steed, Krence etc). Although, he doesn't appear to have the durability of his brother (I believe) Brian.

Still a first round KO is impressive. I actually gave Neilson a decent chance here.

Bertino is undefeated in 7 pro fights, 5 KO's.

Also on the card Steffano Zoff is still around and recovered from a poor start to salvage a draw vs Martin Kristjansen, in a rematch to their surprisingly close EBU title fight a few years back (Kristjansen was very Green back then). According to fightnews, Kristjansen was outboxing Zoff early but faded and Zoff floored Kristjansen in the 7th and also the 8th (apparently Zoff's corner were calling on Mickey Vann to stop the fight in the 8th).

Kristjansen recovered and the final quarter as close to call according to Fightnews.

Is Steffen the brother of Brian? I didn't know that! :o

I like Nielsen, he is a good fighter but apparentley according the
the Danish press, he has pyschological problems as regarding
aggresiveness and throwing punches similar to Eric Bristow
letting go of the darts if you remember.

I have never seen Bertino fight. Denmark have always had decent
heavyweights but they way they are matched doesn't do them any
favours when they come up against a tough macth up.

Yes that's right, i remember Freiheit alerting me to his mental problems a while back. I saw Nielsen twice in with usual suspects Andy Sample and Julius Francis...not particularly impressed on either occasion to be honest. Francis's win prolonged his career and got him some more journeyman fights.

Brian and Steffen are not related (and neither is related to Martin Nielsen). Again yesterday Steffen got a mental block after the 2nd knockdown, and he stayed down.
