Poor Mike tyson !
Such a victim, So misunderstood !
It's all Robin Givin's fault !
Please !
No one I can think of has had more oppertunities at greatness, and fvcked them up HIMSELF more the Mike Tyson.
How about when he was married to Monica Turner ?
She is a pediatric re4sident at Georgetown University Medical Center, and the sister of a former lieutenant governor of Maryland. Was she an evil bitch who fvcked him over and ruined his life too ?
This guy was litterally spoon fed by Cus D'Amato, after his early years of being a punk, a theif and a crimninal.
I guess that wasnt enough for him to get over his dreadful youth, with his mother working two jobs to support his worthless ass.
Tyson was a lowlife, and criminal and a loser long before before he met Robin Givens. Had he never met her, he would be exactly what he is now, a convicted felon and rapist who had punching power, but fought no one with a pulse for his first 18 fights, and held the title during one of the LEAST talent filled periods in heavyweight boxing history.

Mike Tyson would find a way to screw up or get into debt
even if he never hooked up with Robin Givens.

Except, I wasnt being sarcastic.
Not in the least.
They say sarcasm is wasted on the stupid, so i guess peple who see sarcasm where none exists, are...well...more stupid ?
Could be!
Anyway.....
What I would or would not have done in the Tyson era was neither the question or the issue, and frankly, is a pretty silly straw man to toss out there.
Your question was..(did you forget?).What if Tyson had never met Givens
The answer ?
I direct you to my previous comments.

No need to KO yourself, just don’t give either Tyson OR Givens so much credit. Neither had the ability to either de-rail greatness, or create greatness where none existed. Water finds it's own level, and thus Tyson’s place in the gutter. Don’t get me wrong, it is sad, but even more sad, is that it was inevitable.
There is an old fable about the spider and the frog that carries the same moral,, but I'm not in the mood to type it out, and that would be too vile a demonstration of superior intellect.
And yes...thank you......I am GOOD !

I think the best what if regarding Tyson is what if Cus D'Amato had lived just 2-3 years longer, I think Tyson's career would've taken a much different turn and he'd have been far less likely to screw up as the only real authority/father figure he ever had would've been there to show him what's what while he's a champion and a star. I think it would've given him much more mental strength when it comes to handling it all and Tyson would've been less susceptible to all of the "friends" he surrounded himself with.
The problem with taking on the role of a father/mentor is sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind and you also have to acknowledge you won't be there forever and therefore your role is more than just offering advice but also teaching your protégée to do the right thing on their own. Cus brought Tyson along as a fighter wonderfully and no doubt cared for him, but making Mike the Champ was always the main goal.Diamond WEAPON wrote:I think the best what if regarding Tyson is what if Cus D'Amato had lived just 2-3 years longer, I think Tyson's career would've taken a much different turn and he'd have been far less likely to screw up as the only real authority/father figure he ever had would've been there to show him what's what while he's a champion and a star.
For example when Tyson was about 15 there was an incident where physically threatened a teacher and Atlas told D'Amato Tyson should be suspended from the gym for a week as punishment D'Amato refused because he didn't want to harm Tyson's training. As D'Amato was the authority figure in Tyson's life this basically gave him carte blanche to do as he pleased in the rest of his life as long as he did his thing in the gym/ring.
It's all speculation but maybe if D'Amato had taken a firmer hand with Tyson as a kid and taut him to be accountable for his actions he might have been better mentally equipped to cope when Cus passed away and might have made some better choices as an adult.

He didn't go to jail for 20 years.
King didn't get Tyson out of any trouble.
He got Tyson a tax lawyer who had never tried a criminal case, much less a rape case, and Tyson was convicted.
Before he left Bill Cayton for King, Tyson was heavyweight champion, undefeated, the most effective fighter in any weight class, and NOT IN JAIL.
Shortly after he dumped Cayton, his legal manager, for King
Tyson was no longer heavyweight champion and in jail.
Yes, Don King sure did a lot for Tyson.

A) Tyson at his best was not the best ever. Cut that crap.
B) To your question; I dunno, if he never met Robin he would have screwed a few more hoes and would have declined at about the same pace... people like to talk about "well maybe if D'amato hadn't died" (which is stupid, Tyson only had like 13 fights at that point, that had no immediate impact on his career) or "well maybe if he hadn't met King" or whatever it is... he would have self destructed somewhere down the road. And, in the end, nothing would have saved him from Holyfield and Lewis...

Ive looked at the Washington rape case many times and Tyson was convicted unfairly, there are so many unanswered questions in this case and I hope Washington can sleep at night for putting an innocent man in prison.
Re: More on Mike Tyson
I felt that the big turning point in Mike Tyson's professional
career was when Jim Jacobs died. Afterwards, Tyson dumped
both Bill Cayton and Kevin Rooney. I am not saying that
Rooney was a great trainer, but it appears that he made
Tyson buckle down when training with Jacobs' blessing.
As a result, Tyson was well-prepared physically and
mentally for his fights before Jacobs died and Rooney
was fired.
