I have always heard that George Foreman hit at 1,200 pounds of pressure per square inch or something along those lines. But have never ever seen an article that ever backed this up.
Does anyone have proof of this? If so, I would like to actually give some real thought into Foreman's style and see it compared to Marciano's power; cus I am thinking, due to Marciano's style of shifting weight, that he had to have hit just as hard as Foreman---and had Foreman fought like Marciano, shifting weight, a swarmer, he would have been a greater puncher.
Note- According to the show 'MythBusters' maximum human ability is 1,500 pounds of pressure; while this is true or not, I do not know, I am not an authority, but thought I'd want to drop that tid bit of info as well.
Question
re
I had read in an early Oxnard newspaper that Bob Fitzsimmons and Jim Jeffries hit real close to 1200 pounds and that Sam McVey hit harder than all three at over 1200, but I cannot recall the exact number and I have had a hard time finding the article again, but I would say that is about right for Foreman.

Interesting stuff. I always proposed that 'Ruby Red' Fitzsimmons hit as hard as a 'super heavyweight', considering how his power passed over so easily from MW to HW, killing two men in his career, knocking out men over 100 pounds heavier than himself and being able to stay active until his was 50yrs old against worlds best contenders.
If Foreman hit at 1,200 pounds of pressure per square inch with his style in his prime; and Marciano hit with the power that could be generated from an armor piercing shell and/or the same energy required to spot lift 1,000 pounds one foot off the ground, combined with his shifting weight and commitment to his punch, often hiiting upwards than down...
Feck, I'd need a better mathematician or someone who understands physics better than myself to figure out who would hit harder.
