Well done to Billy Smith, winning the Midlands Area title last night.
I have no idea how the fight went but, It's nice to see such an honest and hard working pro win a title. Who knows, maybe Billy can notch up a couple defences (fight on the left side of the bill for once!!!) and have an english title tilt?? Or a superfight with peter buckley for the area title? Maybe this could be possible to coincide with Peter's 300th fight? Just a thought...

Billy Smith is much better than his record suggests. He always (well the fights I have seen) gives a good account of himself.
Not sure if I would particularly like to see Smith vs Nigel Wright for the English title quite yet. However, Southern Area champion John Honney would a winnable fight for Smith which could move him along. As could Welsh champion Buckland.
If Billy can make Lightweight then perhaps there could be an English title fight there - I'm not sure what is happening with the belt now that Lawton fought for the British.
The Battle of the Journeymen between Gethin and Smith at Welter would also be a good one.

Will not Scott Lawton retain his English title, just like Mark Krence And Nigel Wright did after they lost British title tilts.
Smith will defend his title agaisnt Baz Carey in September. Baz picked up a bad arm injury which hampered him throughout, and such was the closeness of the fight that a fifth contest between the two will happen on the next show at the Leofric in Coventry.
Baz, by the way, had won two of the three contests entering Saturday nights fight (the third was a no contest after a bomb scare at the Leofric in 2005).
I had it 96-95 to Bill, who had a good seven-weeks training for this fight.
