Would such a thing be possible? Of course it be an enormous undertaking, but then so was pro BoxRec. The framework is there; presumably just need a bigger server.
Any thoughts?
Amateur BoxRec
John Shep, the originator of BoxRec, actually had that thought a year or so ago. I think the problem was lack of time and people to input the data, let alone server space. I would definitely be a massive and time-consuming undertaking. Speaking for the U.S., the only record an amateur boxer has is his or her passbook. There is no central archive. And most LBCs do not keep individual records - there is no need to. There would also be a problem getting records before 1987 as the passbook was not mandatory until then. There are results from various national and international events - I have notebooks from 1987 - so I know who has boxed nationally or internationally and what the results were. However, I have no idea what the boxer's individual record is. Most record sources throughout the world have that same type of situation.

Yes, I have no doubt it would be an enormous undertaking. Impossible? Maybe, for the reasons you mentioned, certainly in earlier years. But as far as a timeline is concerned, I don't think anybody would expect miracles. I remember adding pro bouts myself to well-known boxers' records myself around 2000 or whenever it was that BoxRec started. The BoxRec we know today took a long time to shape. Even now, pro boxers from certain eras and certain parts of the world don't have 100% complete/accurate records and I don't think anybody would expect that of an amateur BoxRec. But certainly we could get at least a decent approximation of the records of the better-known amateurs, or the amateur records of top pros.
I for one would be interested to browse the amateur slates of top pros. Who did Mike Tyson/Oscar De La Hoya/Muhammad Ali etc fight in the unpaid ranks?
But just because it's something I'd like to see obviously doesn't mean it can happen. Just wondered what others thought of the idea.

Amateur BoxRec
Mel,
I know you know who I am, I was just reading and I think this would be so nice if there is anyway of getting my past amateur record prior to me turning pro in 1984. With everything that I did win as an amateur, I would love to be able to show my athletes and even my kids and wife of 20 years. Trophy's don't say anything, and I am proud to have won so many national titles, and even state titles, that is what our region was JO and Open all of California. Northern, Central, LA, and SD. We where also the toughest region. I think that is why we were split up...
