Good to hear he gets out and about after the vile stabbing he suffered. I wish someone would do an interview with him about his Boxing career. It could be very interesting, he fought many a big name fighter and boxed an exhibition with Ali etc.

I don't know the details, but it was about 10 years ago.

Yeah I'd like those two fights, fancy doing a swap?... anything you looking for??... I've got a full version of Kaylor vs Drayton which is quite hard to get... USA version... I've got Snipes vs Frank which was entertaining... loads of others too... all weights...

I get all my old US stuff in mint, NTSC.

You got any old british stuff in mint? Ive been looking for a Eubank/Watson II in mint for ages. My dad taped it at the time, but later taped over it as he was horrified by the outcome, which is understandable.

Silkov, the Tate/Quarless fight is filmed from ringside. I also have Berbick/Lee, which was broadcast by the BBC, only the last 2 rds, highlight form. Why on earth whatshisname would say it was "exciting" is beyond me. Berbick just cuffs him around with ease and Lee stays in his shell and only in the last 30 seconds does Berbick throw a flurry. Harry Carpenter says "can you believe this man? he could have done this all night but is only doing it now"

I have probably all Trevor Berbick fights that were broadcast.

the lee /berbick fight wasnt particularly thrilling.....but it was just good to see a world class fighter on these shores..........berbick fighting onthe undercard of a bruno 1st round wipeout led us to think that a battle with frank was imminent.......... mark lee (despite ur 2 mins highlights) was expected to be blown away but was a terrier and never in trouble.....his uk run carried on with two wins over quarless.......... all 3 fighters would have been gr8 opps for bruno.

I'm not a big fan of Bruno but he had no problem at all with fighters of the calibre of Lee and Quarless. Both would have been dispatched with ease. Berbick is a different story.

Mate, Berbick did this a lot with journeymen. Just cuffed them and shoved them around with all his muscle and never got out of 2nd gear. If Lee had tried press the issue he would have been smashed into pieces. Instead he wisely decided to stay on the ropes with his gloves up.

Yes, Berbick and Greg Page both were scheduled opponents for Bruno, but both pulled out, i think more than once. Both would have been very interesting tests for Big Frank.

maybe great is stretching it...... but lee would have been tricky for about 5 or 6 rounds..........quarless would have been explosive.......and berbick would have been outpointed over 10....anything would have been better than the bonecrusher disaster....... one fight away from holmes !!!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen handbills of Berbick vs Bruno on sale on E-bay from time to time.

If Berbick was in the mood he could have been a real tough nights work for Big Frank.

Quarless would have been explosive as far as him getting demolished in 1 rd by Bruno.

Mark Lee would survive about as long as Jeff Jordan and Ken Lakusta et al, i.e. not very.

Berbick... depends which one shows up. A guy lacking confidence like Bruno v Berbick? Could be a recipe for disaster.

i went to hire a van in canning town not so long ago and the owner of the place had a few pics of john L on the wall from his glory days.

i went to see him against richie yant at the albert hall in 1974 - he won but yant was terrible. he was brought along very carefully, as usual, by mr lawless i seem to recall.

The ultra soft match making of messrs Lawless & Duff probbaly stifled the development and thus potential of many a british heavyweight.

Glad they're gone.

Yeah, but they had a different attitude with their heavies. Did they really not believe in 1983 Bruno could chin Neville Meade in for a British title and Lucien Rodriguez for the European title.

i disagree james, yes magri had a british title fight after 3 pro fights but dave smith his opponent had only been a pro himself for a year and hadnt exactly set the world alight. same with the european title - he won the EBU version against poor opposition. lawless was bringing him along very carefully it was just lucky that these titles became available at good times. magri wasnt put in with a good man until mercedes for the world title which charlie won well. however, his talent deserved to have got him there quicker in my opinion. lawless couldnt help being the cagey feller he was and i think he held magri up. charlie lost his first defence. and a really good guy - sot chitalada - made mincemeat of him a bit later.

a career that could have been handled better through having a bit of faith in your fighter. terry lawless j'accuse!

I agree. Even though Magri did get those belts, as mentioned, Lawless only let Charlie go for them as the opposition was known to be very limited.

Duff claimed that even when he offered guys of the calibre of Scott LeDoux and Bill Sharkey for Bruno, Lawless was still very hesitant and if he offered him 3 or 4 names Terry was ALWAYS certain to go for the weakest one. Sure, no one wants to see lads thrown to the wolves too early but Lawless was extreme. I remember Boxing News were highly critical of quite a few shows involving his fighters around that time.

By the way, what is Lawless doing these days? I'd have thought he'd have put out some sort of book before he fades completely from our minds...

the funny thing about duff and lawless bills.... they were regularly staging fights at wembley...and i went to some cracking bills....with the young bruno starring..........

tony sibson notoriously pulled out of one bill......and Mark kaylor stepped in to fight bobbie boogaloo watts...they went to war. bruno headlined against scott ledoux (who had fought Holmes for the title !!!!!!!)......

fight of the night was the first Jimmy Cable/ Nick wilshire war...... slick tall boxing skills versus short bulling power shots....cable was down twice but took close points verdict.......probably the last time I saw nobbins...that one fight was worth the ticket price alone.....

altho behind the scenes was as dodgy as hell in those days...i still miss them

i think terry is in spain sunning himself these days although how he ever got on a plane with his safety first mindset i do not know. perhaps he checked the record of the plane first then went round with a mechanic himself to have a look at the engine before finally taking the plunge.

Did you think LeDoux looked like he was going to give Bruno a test?

I thought he looked like a potato with legs and was in no shape at all.

Still, if those sort of 'fights' entertain you I can understand you missing dear old Tel.

Hahahaha, yeah, no doubt he sat there with a parachute on, shaking like a leaf the whole trip.

He must have made some nice geld from his membership in the cartel. Unlike most of the boxers, I feel sure Terry will have invested his cut wisely and will be living quite comfortably now.

having said all that about terry and his cautious nature, he was swearing and cursing the hell out of john stracey to get up as the bethnal green wonder was kneeling on the canvas in great pain and distress after taking the mutha of all body shots against carlos palomino at wembley all those years ago.
the air turned blue with the filth he was dishing out. what? did he want john to continue?

i was talking about that particular bill...it was a great line up....

and diss it if u will but Ledoux had recently fought Holmes who was the undisputed king at hw....it was a good matchup for Bruno who was only 14-0........... ledoux was tough and if u knew anything about him ..he always looked like a potato...the fact that frank wrecked him is beside the point......frank wrecked most people he fought !
