Who should be next for Hatton after Castillo?

Post by Chesney_Chambers »

JUNIOR FCUKING WITTER that's who ....... especially if Witter fights and beats Harris.

I've been looking through the Lightwelter ranks and they're looking quite baron, it's pretty far from the hottest division in boxing that it was. PBF, Corrales, Cotto and Gatti have all moved on to heavier pastures.

Hatton has 3 options IMO after Castillo
1) will Hatton stay at 140 and fight someone else who is a class below him like Urango and Maussa were? or
2) will he move upto 147 where he looked very vulnerable against Collazo? or :-? :-?
3) Will he fight the best available challenger at 140? :D :D :TU:

Witter would smash Hatton!
And Hatton knows it

I was a die hard Hatton fan, but this mess with Witter has opened my eyes. A true champ would take on all comers,
now it's he does not want Witter to make any money,
Since when did personal feelings become a legit reason to duck a fighter?
Not the true mark of a great champ, if he hates Witter that much
take it to the ring.
What a shame, great fight like that and again B.S. in the boxing biz!

It's hard to say who'll be next up for Hatton.

Can't see Ricky going up to 147lbs again unless it's against Mayweather. That seems unlikely because Mayweather is fighting De La Hoya @ 154lbs.

There's also the possibility that Mayweather may indeed just retire, like he's been saying. I doubt this, but he just might. If Floyd beats Oscar, even if he decided to fight Hatton at 147lbs, the negotiations between Hatton-Mayweather would be difficult in my view.

Maybe Ricky would consider fighting Cotto at Welter, but I don;t think Hatton's team would be too enthusiasic about that one.

In all honesty, I like to think Hatton-Witter will happen, but we just know it's not going to take place, which is real shame.

Is it me or does anyone else think Hatton may have "missed the boat" and bouts with Mayweather, Cotto, Witter, Corrales etc will not happen? I don't know why, but I just have that slight feeling.

The hardest thing for me to swallow in this whole mess is the fact that our best are not fighting one another. It's a tired old point and i am as guilty for wheeling it out as much as anyone. But remember the Eubank-Benn-Watson era? Add in Collins too for that matter. They were great domestics willing to put it all on the line to prove they were the best in Britain.

We have domestic matches crying out to be made in the shape of Witter-Hatton, Macarinelli-Haye and the Khan-Murray-Mitchell group. The main point is the fans are being robbed of quality even matchups while fighters increasingly go seperate paths seeking the lowest risk options for most money. We can't make fights anymore and that's the sad fact of it...promoters won't work with each other/TV get annoyingly involved/people want options, add-ons and extras they want the opponent to sign with them for future bouts to make a current fight possible etc etc

It probably makes good business sense, but it's shit for the Boxing public.

Don't think anyone should be looking beyond Castillo - lets see how that one pans out. We might be saying next thing for Ricky is a rematch etc.

This might be a big all-British fight, but only because it involves Hatton. Witter brings very little to the table aside from his title. He has been very poor on TV for the past five or six fights, and he has never been all that popular either. That said, there is no one else left for Hatton to fight at 140 once he's beaten Castillo, so the fight could be made. I would prefer to see him fight someone like Cotto or one of the other top welters though, personally.

For what feels like the millionth time, I'll give my views on a Hatton-Witter fight. Hatton should have fought Witter by now. However, the fact that he hasn't done so, whilst earning millions, tells you plenty about Witter's standing. But with another however, Witter can now say he's answered every question Hatton once asked (bar one), because Witter has beaten some top 10 opponents, and he holds a 'world title' belt. The one he hasn't answered is the 'does anyone give a shit about you' question. And no, Witter hasn't, because he remains desperately unpopular, certainly as a reigning British 'world champion'. But, as thousands of message board posts have said: Is he really a lesser draw than Maussa? Collazo? Urango? No, not really, is the answer.

Let Hatton get it on with Castillo, and hope that Witter can arrange a fight with Harris. I'm not confident of that, because I'm not sure Harris will take sod-all money to travel to Ally-Pally to fight Witter. BUT... if he does, and Witter wins, the Hatton-Witter fight should surely be unavoidable. (if that word meant anything in boxing)

My point is: Hatton has wasted 2 years since beating Tszyu, but he's in a decent fight next. In the same time, Witter has won a world title, but become somewhat dull in the process, although he has an interesting mandatory lined up. But either way, if they both win, there is very little left in the 140lb division. So maybe, just maybe we can finally see the fight we've all been debating for what feels like decades.

I can't believe the amount of people looking past Castillo.

Hatton's last few outings haven't exactly been great and Castillo is his best opponent since Tszyu.

He's a live a body and won't be showing up just to be a bargaining tool on Hatton's record for future fights.

he has to beat harris of course.

if he loses then no fornicating way should witter get a shot.

there are a few bigger fights out there for hatton.

but hatton would have to move to 147 again to get those fights.

As long as it is a clear win over Castillo, then in my view it should be Witter. The last thing I want to see is a trilogy or rematch with Castillo.

The only real alternative to Witter is a move up to fight Mayweather or Cotto.

Oviously Witter has to get by Harris and Hatton has to deal with Castillo - There's no certainty that either will succeed.

Actually, the most likely way for that fight to happen is for both of them to lose. A fight with each other then would look attractive for a quick bounce back.

Yes I would definately go along with that, in fact if Hatton loses and Witter wins, it could still be possible - Hatton is the man in charge right now but if he should fail against Castillo he may well be chasing Witter, for Witters title and to try to prove he is the best in Britain (which I believe he is anyway) and as you say bounce back from the loss if it happens that way - Rickys body must be knackered from having had over 40 fights and struggling to get down to 140, time after time and on that basis Witter could have a good chance of winning especially if Hatton was comming off a loss - However a fully fit Hatton would be far too much for Witter IMO but is Ricky starting to fade, I think he might be - Hatton is a class above Witter but his style requires him being in peak condition and thats getting harder and harder to achieve - A slower pace from Hatton and Witter may nail him.

I'm bored of all things Hatton-Castillo-Witter. Let's wait til one of 'em actually does something IMPRESSIVE, before wasting time agonizing over this & that.

Ricky's been ever so ordinary after that outstanding performance v Tszyu. It's like I wondered straight afer that fight - ok Ricky beat the great man, but you're not going to be a fraction as good a champion.

Retirement. I'm serious, I think Ricky is on the downslide and it would surprise me if Castillo doesnt tear him a new asshole.

If Hatton beats Castillo (I personally feel that he will) and Wiiter beats Harris, i'd like them to take on each other... It is an obvious fight to make and one that the boxing fraternity would love to see.
