WTF??? Audley getting shot at Klitschko???

Post by jomothepure »

from BBC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/6478149.stm

In a bizarre development, former Olympic super-heavyweight champion Audley Harrison could be set to fight Wladimir Klitschko for the latter's IBF heavyweight title in June.

Harrison lost to fellow Brit Michael Sprott in February, a result which was, it was widely expected, to have resulted in the end of Harrison’s career.

But speaking at a boxing show in Germany last night, IBF champion Klitschko, who defeated Ray Austin last month to reclaim his title, said,

"We have talked to Harrison and his team about a fight. Our preference was for [WBA champion] Valuev or [WBC champion] Maskaev but they are both tied up with mandatory defences until Summer. So we must look at optional defences. Harrison is a former Olympic champion and has a lot of talent. It would be a good fight."

Harrison is currently unranked by the IBF, who stipulate a fighter must be ranked fifteenth or higher in order to fight for the world title. However, new rankings, to be released soon, will apparently feature Harrison, 35, who has lost three of his last five fights.

WTF? Has anyone else hears about this??????????

As long as the comebacking Gary Mason gets to fight the winner I'm happy.

Let's hope so, because if it's not, then the joke is seriously on us boxing fans, people who buy tickets to attend boxing etc.

Harrison has made a joke out of the general public since he tutned professional; he's become a millionaire by achieving nothing as a profressional.

The BBC made a real shrewd move by giving him £1M+ when Aufley first turned pro.

If Harrison get's a shot at the IBF title, once again he'll be financially rewarded well and will be in the public spotlight once again. People may feel I'm being too hard on Audley, but from now on he's fighting purely for financial reasons, nothing else.

In fact, I#d go so far to say that the fight should not be allowed to happen. If Michael Sprott can KO Fraudley like he did, then Wladamir will crush him.

You are not being too harsh on Harrison, you are being remarkably restrained.

The man is a joke & a farce & if he was to get a title shot, it would make even more of a mockery of the sport than has previously been made.

A fine gag, Mr ThePure. My biggest worry now is that someone from Klitschko's camp will read this and think 'hang on a minute..... why not?' Let's face it, boxing is one big April fool's most of the time.

Journeymen dont get world title shots and that is all Harrison is - If it were true big Matt would be furious and rightly so.

I remember when I first saw Harrison...

'Who do you want to see me fight next? FRANK BRUNO or Herbie Hide?'

Never been forgiven since. And rightfully so. And virtually every man I ever seen him face with possibly the exception of Skelton and Williams, have been piss poor journeyman who were either over the hill or limited in ability.

Myself I never saw how Lennox Lewis once said Harrison 'had it'. He was being a cockeyed optimist on that one.

journeymen dont get world title shots
if only that was true, if Peter Okhello and Owen Beck can get world title shots then it's not out of the question that Harrison could get one too after beating a nobody in a warm up.
