Is it to hard for you to see that in the past 2 years Kessler has pretty much cleaned out the divisions top fighters and now Calzaghe is blatantly avioding him, Calzaghe has had the chance to fight Beyer and Mundine but didn't at least Kessler is willing to fight against anyone who deserves a shot.

Yes Pundit Kessler's style did not look any different Vs Andrade than It did Vs Beyer.

He jab and stance similar to Mario Veit and his stance Is the typical Euro stance too.
Man I thought you had learned a little bit about boxing since you predicted Calzaghe would beat Lacy on superior "power" -- but it seems the progress has been modest.

Final Fight wrote:Not at all. If Lacy or, say, Miranda had to go the Kessler route they would've been beaten as badly, even worst than Andrade was.

You see a guy get shut out and assume that anyone can shut him out - ridiculous. Andrade has size, power, durability and stamina on his side. Kessler simply proved he cold deal with rugged qualities in a fighter.

Focus on Andrade's lack of skills (knowing he's a puncher), rather than praise Kessler's skills. Who, pray tell, has shown Kessler's level of long range boxing or lateral movement, to suggest they could dominate Andrade?

Andrade was allowed to sit on his WBC mandatory, and it was GBP's incompetence that they didn't develop him. Kessler beat a good fighter before he could achieve anything.

Lacy? An alphabet title incl 2 good wins, Vanderpool and Reid. Shaw got him the right fights at the right time. Honestly, put Andrade in with Lacy, you'll say Lacy wins because he did more in his career, when in fact he might get broken down by the much bigger man.

Talk about Lacy's accomplishments, he's just got lucky v a guy reported to have got lucky v Brian Magee.

Tito was a great puncher, but at middleweight, nothing else. Easy to hit, one paced, head hunter, predictable...Yes Miranda has beaten some decent people, but there have been few improvements in his style since last year, Green was simply "shit-like", and in all truth he's headed for a similar schooling.

The comparison isn't level of comp - it's that they're going to be unprotected against an elite boxer because they don't bring so much more tha guts, enthusiasm and puching power. That is the point.

Reason I'm a fan of the Kessler/Mundine side of things is because they do things the proper way. Calzaghe is one big con man who's yet again reached OUTSIDE the top 10 for an opponent.

Max, Calzaghe would fight you any day, Enzo would approve (unlike Andrade who was too dangerous), Warren would be glad for a cheap opponent and the WBO would sanction it.
Calzaghe would have dominated Andrade just as he dominated Lacy, with angles, speed and workrate, overall just much better boxing skills. Lacy got lucky but with a torn rotator cuff throughout the last 7 rounds against Tsypko, many would have quit. You criticise Bika as an opponent which is fair enough, yet you have admitted in the past that Bika got the best of Beyer before Markus looked for a way out. Remember Beyer got knocked senseless by just a jab. Why degrade folks such as Trinidad and Miranda, guys that consistently beat good fighters yet talk up Andrade who has beat no-one of note, just because he is big tough and lumbering? I give Kessler praise for the way he handled Librado but not once have I ever considered Librado world class.

There is no question Kessler's recent opposition is better than Calzaghe's. I don't see how anyone can try and dispute that.

Manfredo
Bika
Lacy
Ashira

Andrade
Beyer
Lucas
Mundine

Regardless of who you think wins a fight between them Kesslers last four are without doubt superior to Calzaghe's last four. That is a no brainer.

Anyway this same debate is still going?? ;)

Screw Beyer, Kessler did Joe a favour.

I see you haven't learned how Mundine does a Calzaghe too by picking bad opponents then fighting a decent one once In a while.

Just that Mundine makes a couple of million for doing It.

I will be happy to say I told you so when Calzaghe beats Kessler. :TU:

Not happy he's fighting Manfredo but his win over Pemberton Is worth more than Andrade's win over Otis Grant, at least Pemberton was a genuine Super Middle.

Ashira Is crap I agree and has moved to Light Middle.

Mundine has won the WBA twice but It was only the paper title, he does a Calzaghe by fighting terrible opponents then fights a decent one once In a while.

You still think Lacy can come back and Is still a dencent fighter.

Bika was beating Beyer.

So there opposition has a case for being equal.

I really doubt Calzaghe would beat Andrade with anything near the assurance that Kessler did. Those flurries with no weight behind them won't keep a juggernaut like Andrade off. Flurrying with your chin stuck out is arecipe for suicide, especially with a huge guy standing over you...Lacy was a small stocky bloke who was flustered - Joe would have to be punch perfect vs a huge guy like Andrade. Maybe the threat of being in with an intimidating (physically) would ensure a punch perfect showing? I can't see it. I CAN see Joe getting hurt with some right hands.

The Joe who fought Brewer, who still had good hands, is a different story -I'll admit that.

Andrade has been dismissed somewhat unfairly. A very difficult bloke to deal with just on physical grounds. Kessler is a huge super middle himself who showed he had the variety AND toughness that many felt he didn't have.

He's the only bloke who made the thick set Kessler keep on moving. Remember MacBoxing saying Kessler was on train tracks? Well his lateral movement was fab the other week!

Kessler fans frustrated? Not really, I like what I see more and more every time Kessler steps in the ring and I also like his level of comp. Was overjoyed with the Beyer fight & performance... I've actually been a Calzaghe fan, but like post Tito Hopkins he's lost me.

Stocky maybe, but small Lacy certainly is not, he's built like a brick shithouse.

I can quite easily see Calzaghe getting inside a tall bloke like Andrade's reach and letting his hands go.

You can make as much as you want about Andrade's physical attributes, but merely being big does not make you world class.

Rico Hoye was a big tall lanky light heavyweight it didn't really help him against Woods did it?

Different opponents bring different qualities. Kessler dealt with first rate boxers and this time he dealt with a puncher in his prime. What do you want? The speed of Mundine, the experience of Beyer, the chin/height/power of Andrade all rolled into one?

Also, Andrade has a top 10 ranking in publications that wasn't bought by being a popular minor TV celeb.

As I see it, Kessler has shown variety by dealing with different problems from world class fighters. All this within a 3 year period is impressive and one heck of a learning curve. He's basically cleanig out the whole top 10, while Joe fails to build on the Lacy win.

Hoye got flustered early, had a chip on his shoulder and mentally caved in with the ref being on his case...Andrade had better toughness and tenacity. Hoye was outclassed by Woods, Andrade was outclassed by Kessler, that's agood level between the two victors.

Big, powerful, durable, no worse than the usual 1-D puncher to have graced these divisions, only bigger and harder to deal with and fresh, rather than being a retread. Joe would fornicate his hands up very early tagging Andrade...Also Joe doesn't have that lateral movement and ability to reposition. If Brewer could hurt a prime Joe, if Mitchell could drop him, isn't a stretch to say he'd have problems dealing with the more imposing specimen.

Also, Andrade is the only guy who's made Kessler have to try something different than holding ring centre and picking ppl off with jabs. (apart from Mundine, who made Kessler come forward clumsily...) Kessler had to do something special, out of his norm, to deal with this.

Honestly, history is being rewritten. Andrade has been passed off as a sub-Mario Veit mandatory.

Sorry, Calzaghe doesn't have that lateral movement!? Did you actually see the Lacy fight where Joe absolutely boxed circles around Lacy, hardly taking a single shot?

Calzaghe is a far better mover than Kessler, who more often than not fights on rails.

Kessler may have many fine qualities, but no way on god's green earth does he have better movement and positioning than Calzaghe.

You are talking absolute and utter bollocks mate.

Oh, that one!

Yes, he did, but he was inspired that night. He doesn't normally fight that way and how many times has he spun a guy and belted him with 7 hit combos? Joe found he could take liberties with Lacy because he was faster. He could even wang away with his gloves down.

Look at for instance the Bika fight. Joe has virtually no discipline. Talent but little control over his talent. If he moved, there was no method behind it. You need to be clinical to do things at this level with consistency. Joe is temperamental.

Kessler is a disciplined fighter. He fights to a plan. His movement from one side to the next was peerless and handcuffed Andrade, skating outside his punch before it got off, making him stumble off balance, and then stunning him from the blindside.

It was sublime boxing and shows clearly that Kessler can adapt to the situation. Sorry, but that movement was beautifully thought out and scientific. So Calzaghe had one night of true inspiration where he showed some angles.

Normally Joe is a guy that can close the distance pretty quickly, no more or less. Kessler is a better champion than Calzaghe because he can deal with tough opposition with far more assurance.

In addition, the Dane actually fights guys. Calzaghe can't get past the negotiating table. ala Mundine, Beyer...

Oh, naturally, because Calzaghe did that to Lacy = Calzaghe can do that to Andrade = (I suppose...) Calzaghe doesn't need to fight such fighters. Sorry, MacBoxing, that attitude sucks and is part of the problem that calzaghe's career has been. I guess we can say you're COMPLICIT in much of the bullshit that has been Joe's career, with an attidue like that!

Macboxing!? What are you on about.

Calzaghe would also have been faster than Andrade, Lacy didn't look that slow against Reid did he? Calzaghe made him look slow and lumbering because he didn't present a stationary or halting target waiting for Lacy to get his punches off.

I am one of Calzaghe's harshest critics on here, I'm sick and tired of waiting for him to have that career defining fight, and would LOVE to see him fight Kessler.

Just because I am angry with Calzaghe however, does not mean I am prepared to accept that Andrade was this incredible test for Kessler. Everyone expected the big dane to win, so what's the big deal. The Mundine peformance was far more impressive, given than Mundine is slick, fast and has proven pedigree at top level, despite his losses.

If you want to rave on and on and on about how Calzaghe could never have done what Kessler did with Andrade, fine. What did Andrade bring that Calzaghe won't have seen before?

Even in fights where Calzaghe has looked bad, against the likes of Bika and Salem, he's won by a country mile without really having to put much of a performance in. Calzaghe isn't consistently brilliant, but that's partly down to his arrogance, in believing he can fight with imugnity against the lesser lights of the division.

The fact that Calzaghe was able to raise his game and execute such a fight plan against Lacy, suggests to me that the movement is there, he also showed similar boxing skills against the lesser Mkrthchian, boxing his ears off before finishinig him off without taking anything much back.

I am no Calzaghe apologist, but I recognise his talent and salute it, if not always his attitude.

Kessler is turning into a very good champion, and hopefully this two guys will fight and end this debate.

I thought it was a neat nickname myself!

Yes, Joe has all that potential, but you never know how it;s going to come out. I see him more as a "he does it wrong, right" fighter akin to a Pryor or Mike Spinks. His combo of wonkiness and talent lets him get away with it - but does lead to some very messy nights. Can be dominant, can be hideous.

I will say, vs Lacy he pulled back a lot with his chin in the air and did throw volley without even thinking of covering his chin. It worked - hit 'im first, fast, but will not be the same vs everyone. Nonetheless it was the performance that special fighters usually show - ONCE.

In my view, if Calzaghe had beaten Andrade he'd be counted among Woodhall, Reid, Brewer, Mitchell, & Lacy as one of the stronger Calzaghe opponents.

Kessler is a great alternative to Calzaghe. More of a textbook boxer, a more reliable fighter, someone who fights good fighters and who is pretty reliable at getting the job done and boasts some exceptional tools.

As I've said numerous times, that doesn't mean he'd beat Calzaghe. Kessler likes to keep it at his own pace and pace is what Joe brings - in spades - but I see a fast lefthander who fights well in reverse, Chad Dawson, being the man to beat Kessler.

Just read some more quotes from Warren, saying he's been urging Calzaghe to fight Kessler - in JULY. Sounds promising.

Was thinking of starting a new thread with this, but I'll ask it here -is Manfredo a deserved top 10 fighter? Ring have him in their top 10, like they do Allan Green (!), though many will dispute that...

Now I'm giving credit for Kessler beating yet another top 10 ranked Ring fighter...Should I do the same for Calzaghe-MANFREDO?

My take on what has been said would be....

Andrade isn't proven world class whereas Brewer and Mitchell were.

Ottke beat Mitchell handily, not even a hint of controversy on that one from what i saw,

And finally Calzaghe is talking utter shit criticising Kessler's level of opposition. Kessler has gone from prospect to proven champion in quick time without taking shortcuts.

If Beyer was so shot to shit (which he may have been) then why didn't Calzaghe jump in first and take the job on? Calzaghe's opponents have at times been woeful. Salem, Pudwill, McIntyre, Ashira, Bika, Jimenez, Manfredo Jnr it's like a whos who of not even has beens but just plain straight never were in the first places!

Calzaghe can criticise Kessler all he wants but when he takes the piss out of his opposition i draw the line, Calzaghe has wasted his prime years beating some desperate opponents all in the name of the WBO belt. Mario Veit 2???? Says it all really.

It's not bad, but McBoxing would be more accurate.

Well, let's not get too excited about all this talk, I've been a Calzaghe observer too damed long now to get sucked into believing the fight will happen. I'll be bloody happy to be proven wrong, and the fact that HBO are smitten with Kessler definetly makes me feel more positive, but I maintain a healthy dose of cynicism.

I think Kessler would be a hard fight for Joe, but conversely, I wonder how Kessler would deal with someone as fast, aggressive and mobile as Calzaghe. The jab would give Kessler the tools to make it hard for Joe for sure though.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was CONVINCED that Calzaghe himself was going to call out Kessler, when Kessler unified with Beyer the same night as Calzaghe-Bika.

I had serious egg on my face after that lapse in judgement.

At least Warren is saying Kessler is the man to fight. Well, Kessler and Jermain Taylor...

Yeah ok if you say so haha. Come on!

Take the blinkers off.

Kessler has fought 3 champs or former champs and a number 1 contender.

Calzaghe has a champ, a reality TV star, a Light Middle and a Middleweight.

EQUAL!!

For the sake of British boxing and his own credibiliy Joe does need better fights than Manfredo - He has all the tools for Mundine and Kessler so lets hope its one of them next time - Either should be a good money maker for him which seems to be Joes motivator these days and definately not having to prove anything, hes already done that many times - Joe could live another 50 plus years so banking money has to be a greater priority than a few quid shutting up the gobby Froch - People argue Joe is avoiding certain fighters and taking easy fights - Well Lacy was a big risk, how many gave Joe a chance of winning, yet he beat Lacy easily - The bigger the challenge the better Joe is, so hopfully a showdown with Kessler before the end of the year will be agreed.

Manfredo
Bika
Lacy
Ashira

Andrade
Beyer
Lucas
Mundine

Regardless of who you think wins a fight between them Kesslers last four are without doubt superior to Calzaghe's last four. That is a no brainer.

What blinkers? Will most of you be civil and not oversensitive about fights not happening just because your too impatient?

Least I'm civil.

Andrade didn't deserve to be a No1 Contender, Otis Grant was his only name.

Lucas was shot.

It's true Mudine has only been champ because of the stupid WBA regular champs Ottke was the true WBA champ and now Kessler Is while he Ko's Middleweight Soliman for the paper belt. Whats he done to be considered otherwise?

Mundine's best wins except Danny Green are over two Middleweights. He's talented though.

If Bika was beating Beyer than he's a genuine top 10 and must be a natural 12 stone fighter If the so called next Calzaghe(Bute) Is fighting him next and he did take 4 attempts to make 12 stone when he fought Calzaghe.

Manfredo could be equal to Andrade, both have wins over past their best fighters although Pemberton has always been a Super Middle while Otis was a middle.

I am being civil, I just can't see how anyone can claim Calzaghe's last four are the equal of Kesslers. I don't even think his dad would say that. ;)
