Dear friends,
this message below was posted on the list of Sports Historians. I ask your assistance for answering to my colleague who e-mailed it. Many thanks in advance.
Friendly yours, Gherardo Bonini
I have just come across the 'Copyright Pugilistic Series' of Edwin
James, published in New York around 1879, which gives potted
biographies of famous boxers. The second in the series is Tom Hyer,
the third John C Heenan, and the fourth 'Sir' Dan Donnelly. Does
anyone know:
1. Was no1 in the series John Morrisey?
2. Were there any more in the series after Donnelly?
3. Who was Edwin James?
4. Are there any more US published accounts of 'Sir' Dan Donnelly
(d1820)?
Thanks in advance for the responses.
