Herbie Hide's got Vassilev
I think McCall showed better boxing ability that night than he's given credit for, no way could a plodder like David Tua ever have taken Lewis apart like that. It goes down as a "lucky punch" but in all fairness if McCall hadn't connected with that shot it would only have been a matter of time until the next one came.Goz wrote:If the same Mcall turned up for the rematch I see Lewis winning a wide points victory fighting very cautiously (as he was) and making Mcall look clumsy, perhaps something like the Tua fight.
I'm gutted about McCall's disappearance these days. I heard he went back to prison for a while. There was once serious talk of him and Tua getting on - what a battle that could've been. The two hardest men in boxing in a showdown.
Yeah, even now Tua-Mcall would be interesting.Kilburn wrote:I think McCall showed better boxing ability that night than he's given credit for, no way could a plodder like David Tua ever have taken Lewis apart like that. I would say the punch that ko'd Lennox was lucky"ish", I mean he had his eyes closed! That was a haymaker if I ever saw one.
On the subject of that punch has anyone ever thought that the person who decides on what goes in the window display of William Hill bookmakers must be a right Lennox-hater, they still have a picture of that punch in amongst all their other more up to date pictures. Still makes me chuckle every morning on my way into work.
McCall wasn't a well man in the rematch because Lewis sickened him with his jab and his sheer size that night. McCall was shocked at how things had changed from the first fight and we all know the effect that shock had on him.nasty wrote:It's kinda strange you should mention OLIVER McCALL, does anyone agree with me in that McCall has Lewis' number.
O.k, forget the second fight as McCALL WASN'T A WELL MAN but i just feel he has the style, power and chin to beat Lewis everytime when they meet!
Don't get me wrong. I like Oliver, and that was a great win over Akinwande recently, but he didn't have Lennox's number. Let's not forget, he only won the first fight because Lewis was given shocking advice by his incompetent trainer "Pepe" Correa, who told Lewis to go out and knock out the iron-jawed McCall. Lewis then walked on to a right hand Oliver through with his eyes shut.
