Olympic champion Manus Boonjumnong survived two eight counts in the final round to beat Asian Games champion Bakhyt Sarsekbayev of Kazakhstan yesterday to reach the semi-finals of the King's Cup amateur boxing tournament.
Debutant Amnaj Reanreong, Sailom Ardee and Asian Games silver medallist Angkhan Chomphuphuang (Thailand B) also triumphed and joined Manus in the semi-finals.
"Manus built an 18-10 lead after three rounds before running out of steam in the final session. Sarsekbayev threw everything at him and almost knocked the Thai out. Manus suffered two eight counts in the final moments."
What is this mean? Who won? Sarsekbaev knocked Manus out, but Manus survived.
knocked out mean is he lost totally , may be knocked down?
Who can explain it? my english not so good.
in Asian Game against Manus Boonjumnong Serik Sapiev from Kazakhstan was judged. Kazakhstan trainers complained about it to president of AIBA, and the president checked and gave verdict . they couldn't be more judge. I think this time same think happened.
King's Cup in Thailand
A "standing 8 count" is just that - for whatever reason (and not always because of punches), the referee looks at and evaluates the boxer while counting to 8. It doesn't not mean a boxer is knocked out. If the boxer is knocked out, the bout would be stopped on in a RSC (referee stops contest) or RSCH (referee stops contest due to head blows). Sounds to me like Manus won."Manus built an 18-10 lead after three rounds before running out of steam in the final session. Sarsekbayev threw everything at him and almost knocked the Thai out. Thanks for explaining Boxmell.
Yes the thai boxer won. there is the news from Bangkok Post.
Manus, moving up from light welterweight, did it the hard way in notching up a 23-18 victory over Sarsekbayev, who pushed him all the way in a pulsating bout that had the crowd on its feet until the closing bell.
The Ratchaburi-born boxer had to be at his best throughout the fight as Sarsekbayev, who broke Thai hearts by defeating Angkarn Chomphouphong in Doha, kept chasing the Thai, who adopted his usual approach of hitting and stepping away.
Manus survived a big scare in the final round when the Kazakh managed to floor him twice with his lethal straight right. Just before Sarsekbayev could build on the momentum, the bell came to Manus' rescue.
"I could not compete with his strength," said a relieved Manus. "It could have been different had I not claimed a healthy lead from the first two rounds. I will never box in this division again as I have learned now that it's very difficult."
