Not so sure. Thirlwall had a lot of problems with his bicep. I don't think it's question of looking to avoid good opposition.

Bear in mind, McDermott hasn't faced anyone with Thirlwall's ability and especially power.

I just like the thought of seeing a cracking match which it would be.

I question whether Dean Powell would be that interested for various reasons

McDermott may fight Elcock sooner than anyone thinks. I've reason to believe the two camps have had preliminary talks regarding a fight in late 2007.

An international opponent is likely to be next for Mac in June.

The reports I have heard have the sterling ex amateur down as someone who hasnt taken too well to the full time lifestyle of the pro game... Maybe they were wrong.

Havent been too impressed in the 6 rounders I have seen him in TBH - maybe with something meaningful on the line he will up his game but McDermott strikes me as a consumate pro - always in great shape and with the physical advantages I would fancy him to get the win.

McDermott v Elcock is a great fight for the Midlands though - if that comes off I will see you at the fight Tom!

The reports may be correct to an extent, but I've seen him train hard and then straight after his arm is straight in an ice pack and i understand this has been a problem for while. It might be a combination of the two !?

After he stormed through the ABA's I honestly thought he would be British champ, but so far he hasn't even contested the Southern Area title. The win over Smillie was good one and not a great deal has happended since.

I've no doubts about McDermott's commitment, I'd just love to see these two get it on and the Dudley show seems an ideal place for it to happen. Neither has much time to waste and the winner should land a title shot.

You are undoubtedly right - I remember watching Thirwall ripping his way through the ABAs and I though to myself - this kid is one to watch.

Years on and he still hasnt moved out of 6 rnd class - hence the reason I wonder if he ever will.

As you say though, both are getting on and need to put the foot on the gas (Thirwall especially).

Would love to see that fight made!
