Carl Froch has offered to end the search for Joe Calzaghe’s next opponent and has told the Welshman that fighting him in London this July will make him more money than if Russian Denis Inkin was in the other corner.

British and Commonwealth Super-Middleweight Champion Froch, 29, is currently ranked third by the WBO and promoter Mick Hennessy has asked the governing body to match the undefeated Nottingham fighter in a final eliminator with Calzaghe’s #1 ranked challenger Inkin, after #2 Lucian Bute opted to fight for the IBF crown.

The governing body, however, are yet to make a decision and WBO holder Calzaghe already has his 21st defence pencilled in for the 02 Arena this summer. WBC and WBA counterpart Mikkel Kessler and Middleweight champion Jermain Taylor have both been mentioned as possible opponents, but both appear out of the frame.

Kessler’s handlers have already turned the fight down and Taylor is set to face Cory Spinks in a defence of his WBC and WBO middleweight championships in May. Reports this morning suggest that Inkin has come into the picture, but this would appear a strange choice with Froch on Calzaghe’s doorstep.

“Joe has said he is looking to make the most money possible from his next fight,” began Froch. “Given the options open to him, that must mean fighting me. It certainly wouldn’t mean someone like Inkin.

“The fight would sell out in an instant; it would be one of the biggest in British boxing history. For domestic broadcasters, there isn’t a bigger contest out there. They would really get behind it.

“The excuse that American TV wouldn’t be interested wouldn’t wash either. I am highly ranked and I am known in the States. US TV would be far more interested in me than anybody else he has a realistic chance of facing in July. There would definitely be more interest in me than Inkin; he is a complete unknown to everyone.

“And it should be about more than money. It should be about the best fighting the best. I will give him a proper fight: I am no Peter Manfredo.

“Joe’s got some making up to do after that debacle. I don’t believe the broadcasters can have been happy with that match; but I don’t really want to waste any more breath on that fight. I thought it was a joke.

“I just want to give the British fans a fight they deserve. I am a proper challenger. I am the best in the division and politics shouldn’t stop us meeting.

“Joe’s promoter has gone on record showing his confidence in his man over me. Unless he totally contradicts those opinions and starts asking for options, there is no reason this fight cannot happen.

“It would be an exciting battle before I smoked his boots.”

Out of all the opponents being being talked about for Calzaghe's next bout, Froch is the fight I most want to see. Carl is young, hungry and is improving. He also hits hard. It certainly would not beear any similarities to the Manfedo farce.

Carl's made no secret of his wish to fight Joe. Wonder whether Joe will give him the opportunity? I think it's doubtful the fight will happen. I get the feeling Froch genuinely doesn't care who he fights.

I reckon negotiations between allegedly allegedly & Mick Henessey would not run smoothly. This could be the factor that makes the fight NOT happen.

I'd only like to watch Calzaghe V Froch for the boxing lesson Joe would give Carl.

Shame Carl didn't impress Itv when he fought Barney though.

Hitting hard didn't help Jeff Lacy.

Improving or not Froch needs a genuine world class fighter at Super Middle, Tatesyovan was Euro Level and was coming off a loss to Bute and didn't have the full preparation Froch had.

In the eyes of the British boxing fan, if SN can't secure Joe a big name Yank, then this is surely the fight we would all want to see (seeing as Kessler is allegedly out).

But this flies in the face of SN making Joe a name in America, to a certain extent. Carl is not known over there. But if his lack of Stateside exposure is used as the reason for not getting it on, the logic should extend to the likes of Inkin, etc.

Joe doesn't need Carl. He only has to beat the declining Hopkins, or another big US name, to be hailed by the British media as a Hall of Famer.

Froch is a danger man without world status. I often think Joe's content to miss the defining fights, just comfortably sliding into retirement. Then he'll turn around and say the opportunities never came up.

They may want to get Inkin out the way to avoid any kind of future mandatory complication.

Inkin's much more efficient & well schooled than Froch, whereas Froch is the more dynamic, swashbuckling, performer with a surprising punch.

Both are really good challengers. Maybe I'm just hoping and maybe they'll just bring in some raw guy with a head like steel for Joe to break his hands on, instead.

Sometimes you think fWank focuses so much on nailing down the best deal that no one thinks about the art of MATCHMAKING...Bika, Ashira and Manfredo were nightmares from a MM pov.

Quite true.

Eubank, Woodhall and Reid hit Joe with more right handers than any Yank. In Joe's body of work Europe is really the missing link. If the A fights don't happen, I see Inkin and Froch as the toughest opposition.

No doubt going to America to whip Allan Green or Anthony Hanshaw would get him more plaudits, which is daft.

These Americans who say you have to make it in America, that anywhere else is cheating, are simply paranoid about anywhere else having success and seem to have a chip on their shoulder (nathional anthems booing etc).

Apparently, if Joe beat lacy in America he would already be great.
