I was looking through the record of WBO super middle #1 Denis Inkin. He is the most likely man to challenge Calzaghe in July. Anyway, I've admired his skills since watching his last 2 fights. Including the 7th rd KO of Mario Veit. I had Inkin winning all but 2 of the rounds thanks to smart pressure.
He's also beaten Ovill McKenzie in Manchester. McKenzie would go on to get the Commonwealth light heavy briefly. This was on the Hatton-Pedersen undercard. I hope someone has this on DVD.
Another victim is Mgr Mkrtchian. Inkin was 1-0 when the fight was made, Mkrtchian was 6-0. Inkin won via TKO 2 and Mkrtchian would go on to challenge Calzaghe, then win the EBU title and briefly prove himself as a top 10 super middleweight.
Denis stopped Jose Hilton dos Santos three rounds quicker than Zsolt Erdei did. Erdei is a weight above and was in his prime.
Not bad, eh?
Anyone have info on his amateur career -because he looks like he knows exactly what he's doing in the ring.
Inkin's Record
Inkin was a good amateur but didnt get to any of the big events because Lebziak was the Russian boxer at that weight, you also had Teymour and Makorenko. Anyone one of those guys were good enough to medal at a championship.
mcKenzie dropped him in there fight (and also got dropped himself, although most people said he kind of fell through the ropes when he was leaning on them, rather than itr being a big shot)
