BOXING hero Gary Jacobs has been charged with possessing Ecstasy after his car was stopped by police.
He was arrested and taken to court last week after failing to turn up for an earlier hearing.
Ex-European champion Jacobs, 37, made no plea or declaration at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was released on bail.
The drug charges came after he was stopped on suspicion of drink-driving in Glasgow city centre in July.
When he failed to give police a breath test, he was taken to Stewart Street police station.
Officers allegedly found a quantity of the Class A drug when they searched him.
It took police almost two months to arrest Jacobs after he missed his first hearing.
Earlier this month Jacobs, of Newton Mearns, near Glasgow, slated his pal Paul Weir, a former world boxing champion, after he was found guilty of having cannabis worth £42,000 in his car.
Jacobs said: "He will now be remembered for all the wrong reasons instead of people talking about what he achieved in the ring.
"It's very sad when someone gets involved in this sort of thing.
"Paul has tarnished his image as a double world champion. It's unfortunate both for him and the sport as a whole.''
In January, the pair staged a charity boxing event, at a Glasgow hotel, which is believed to have raised around £32,000.
But only £8000 was given to Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Sick Children after the promoters took their expenses.
It is understood the Inland Revenue is still investigating the event.
Jacobs has suffered a string of misfortunes since retiring from the ring in 1998.
He lost almost £600,000 after opening his own gym in Shawlands, Glasgow.
Earlier this year, East Renfrewshire Council made him bankrupt after he failed to pay any council tax for eight years. Father-of-three Jacobs was also thrown out of Glasgow's trendy Tiger Tiger nightclub recently.
And he has been banned from the city's Cube nightclub after an incident with doormen.
During his career, Jacobs was voted Britain's Best Young Boxer and came close to winning the world title against Pernell Whitaker in 1995.

Wow, that surprised me. I knew he was big mades with Paul Weir, I didn't know he had those financial problems.
Sounds like a bit of an idiot, what a blomming hypocrite.
Good fighter, should be up there in the list of best british fighter never to hold a world championship belt.
But while he was brave against Whittikar he was never him his league.
But BOTH fighters have had so many problems since that fight.
