The interesting thing is they rarely, if ever, have ANY boxing news on their website or their newsletters. Mostly what they offer is a link to the USA Boxing site.

Mel - it just goes to show that there are a lot of boxing fans out there just starving for information. Local press in many areas does a very poor job of covering amateur boxing and fans have to look at national coverage for any info. Here in Michigan, the newspapers do a decent job of covering the Golden Gloves and other news about major national and international tournaments. Boxers and fans in certain other states aren't so lucky.

We get rare, if any, coverage in the biggest LBC in the country. We have a local paper in Orange County following Luis Ramos and that's about it. None of the Media Department's press releases get any space. Our Golden Gloves doesn't even get any coverage - too many sports in So. Calif. and not much interest in amateur boxing. I remember the old days when the L.A. Times had Earl Gutsky who covered amateur boxing - around 20 years ago. He's long gone and so is the interest. Steve Springer is the current boxing reporter and he cares more for scandals than he does promoting the sport.

That is a shame Mel. Maybe someday they will wake-up to the fact that there are more fans of the sport than they realize.
