Mogens Palle ready with mega-offer for Calzaghe
By Anders Damgaard
Team Palle doubles Frank Warrens offer for a fight between Mikkel Kessler and Joe Calzaghe. Mogens Palle has now offered the welshman contract for $5 mill. to fight in Denmark
Manager Mogens Palle is fed up with what he calls promotor Frank Warrens propaganda and bluff negotiation on behalf of Mikkel Kesslers great rival i supermiddleweight, Joe Calzaghe.
According to english media, it's appears as if Mikkel Kessler doesn't want to meet the 35 years old Welshman, but Mogens Palle garantues that, that is far from the truth.
Mogens Palle therefore shipped a giant offer to Frank Warrens base in England. In the first draft of the contract Team Palle offers Joe Calzaghe to fight Mikkel Kessler in Denmark on a unspecified date starting from September.
»I have now offered Joe Calzaghe and allegedly $ 5 mill. to fight Mikkel Kessler, as a beginning in Denmark. Now I don't want to hear no more about that Mikkel should be ducking Joe Calzaghe, and our offer is twice what allegedly offered us,« Mogens Palle confirms to Berlingske Tidende.
Ridicoulous offer
The heavy counter-offer from Team Palle comes as a answer to a »ridicoulous low offer« from allegedly, as Palle puts it.
In the boxing buisness there has long been talking about, that the Calzaghe-camp should have offered Mikkel Kessler $ 3 mill. brutto to come to Cardiff, Wales and fight Calzaghe. But only first yesterday an offer tikked in on fax to the Palle office - with demand on acceptance and answer within 4 days for a fight between july 1st and september 30th.
Mogens Palle wasn't impressed with what he read.
»The offer i recieved, was allready signed by allegedly and wasn't negotiable at all. It was $ 3 mill. brutto. That mean, that we must pay a long list of expenses ourselves, like sanctioning fees for the boxing organisations, before we can put some money in our own pockets. Warren has the american TV-rights and all the entrance. So I think that the offer is indecent. Kessler-Calzaghe is one of the biggest fights in pro-boxing right now and Mikkel does attract a lot of spectators and generates a lot of TV-income,« Mogens Palle, says.
The veteran promotor has therefor, after careful consideration send an counter-offer. Mogens Palle doesn't doubt that he can find the large amount of funds - with or without a helping hand from the former boxer and buisness man Hans Henrik Palm, who was behind Mikkel Kesslers latest fight against Librado Andrade in Parken.
»There will be som much attention for Kessler-Calzaghe, that I would be able to stage the fight and generate the nessesary funds. For now Hans Henrik Palm isn't involved in this. But I won't deny the possibility that I'll dicuss it with him. Time will tell« Mogens Palle continues, he recently returned from USA, where he held meetings with HBO top bosses.
Mogens Palles offer to Joe Calzaghe matches the offers, allegedly recently has tried to lure the americans Jermain Taylor og Bernhard Hopkins with - without luck.
3 Million not negotiable?

Kessler is a national hero there, Im sure he would get close to 30,000 if he was fighting Calzaghe.Max Molyneux wrote:Don't see It happening In Denmark and rightfully so since boxing Is not very popular over there.
2.5 Million pounds Is a good offer though.
Now the ball is in Calzaghe and Franks court and they are going to look like fools if this fight dosn't eventuate.

If the fight doesn't eventuate so will Kessler and Palle. Palle said he doesn't doubt he will find the funds, what If he messes up on that part? Didn't they have trouble getting a TV contract a while ago?
He should be putting the offer In pounds too Joe Is not American.
More money would be made If the fight happens In the UK, not many Americans would go to see a main event between two Europeans on US soil either.

The dialogue is hardly business like and is more to impress the 'internetties' that being any business proposition.
By the way, perhaps someone should ask him if he's actually sent this letter to SN or FW or simply put it on his website for the 'fans' top see. Ask to see the proof of sending, you may be surprised.
Also, on FWTV Warren clearly states that he offered him $3m plus certain territorial TV rights. He seems to have omitted this fact, perhaps he doesn't want his fighter to know the full SP. Therefore the Package is worth much more than $3m.
Deductions, sanction fees, what utter Bullshit. Everyone has to pay these so tough shit.
Either way, it's hardly the letter of a man who is a professional businessman is it or someone who actually wants to sit down and seriously negotiate.
They should stick to Bacon and Pastries over there IMO.

Calzaghe will not be ready in July I will bet with anyone that doesn't materialise the guy has a broken hand and with his history I wouldn't bank on it healing quickly. They'll turn down this Kessler offer saying they are fighting in July then Calzaghe won't make the July date and will end up fighting in Septemeber/October anyway.

Cliff Rold of BS talked to Kessler's ppl, and they complained to him that Warren was only 'corresponding' through the media a couple of weeks ago.boxingchat wrote:The dialogue is hardly business like and is more to impress the 'internetties' that being any business proposition.

I guess your boss is thoroughly professional himself.

Err....July is not the question in this matter.
Warren supposedly made Kessler the offer to fight in July did he not? And Taylor to fight in July? Why the hurry to get Calzaghe back in the ring so quickly when he a) has a broken hand, b) has fought no more than twice a year for the last 5 years?boxingchat wrote:nickd wrote:Calzaghe will not be ready in July I will bet with anyone that doesn't materialise the guy has a broken hand and with his history I wouldn't bank on it healing quickly. Calzaghe v Kessler is the one of the biggest fights in the sport right now lets get it made. Lets not have another big fight pass us by there have been way too many in Calzaghe's career already.

They will look like fools as they have now been offered almost double what they offered Kessler. If the fight dosn't happen Calzaghe's legacy is going to be affected as he has avioded all the best opponents over the 10 years of being champion.Max Molyneux wrote:How exactly will they look like fools?ben k wrote:Kessler is a national hero there, Im sure he would get close to 30,000 if he was fighting Calzaghe.Max Molyneux wrote:Don't see It happening In Denmark and rightfully so since boxing Is not very popular over there.

What If Kessler goes on to fight terrible fighters too? He's had a good start like Calzaghe did when he first became champ but then Joe had some terrible fighters on his list.ben k wrote:They will look like fools as they have now been offered almost double what they offered Kessler. Palle will look just as much a fool. The offer from Frank was 3 million so Palle's offer wasn't double.
At least Warren Isn't resorting to name calling In his offers.
