I am a big fan of Limonds and to be fair he is a much better fighter than any other of Khans professional opponents to date. But he is another non-punching former Super-Featherweight and has been very inactive of late. Also I bet Limond will not be allowed a tune up fight to shake off any ring rust. Khans movement and speed will cause him problems.
A much better test for Khan though.
Go Limond!!!!

As for Limond, decent match up and a fair fight at this stage in Khan's career in all honesty. As mentioned though, it's probably the 'safest' of the fighters who would be seen as a step up. Limond's a light puncher and has stepped up to the weight, the thought that Khan's chin is seen as 'questionable' persists.
Good matchup on paper. We must remember that Khan has still only had 12 fights. If you want to see a protected prospect with a built up record then check out Chavez Jr. http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=214371
I agree with the consensus..... it is a step up, but the easiest possible step up. Given how Dave Stewart handled the same opponent that gave Limond problems - I don't think Limond would have had a long reign as champion.
I wonder WHEN Khan wins this will he fight his mandatory, Dave Stewart.... now that one is far more interesting.

Diff is that JCC Jnr is learning as a pro - He hasnt the amateur pedigree of Khan to fall back on.lvlarc wrote:Good matchup on paper. We must remember that Khan has still only had 12 fights. Most mexican's learn the game as pros with limited amateur careers.
Unbeaten Khan takes his first major step up for his first major title (in the pros) in a fine domestic clash with defending Commonwealth lightweight champion Limond. The 20-year-old former world junior champion and Olympic silver medallist has raced to 12 wins since switching in July 2005 - but Limond boasts 28 wins.
An experienced, battle-hardened 28-year-old.
Father-of-two Limond picked up the Commonwealth title with a gruelling unanimous decision over African champion Kpakpo Allotey in Glasgow's historic Kelvin Hall in November, and lost only once in eight years as a pro - to world class fellow Scot Alex Arthur in a British super-featherweight title challenge in Glasgow in 2003 (eight rounds) - from which he has learned and rebuilt well. He's won 10 on the spin, matured into a strong-looking lightweight and showed real grit and stamina against Allotey, dropping in hard rights throughout and maintaining his composure when the rugged Ghanaian applied his own pressure.
The Glasgow joiner carved out arguably the performance of his career.
So Willie is no pushover. Known for his solid boxing skills, he can dig a bit and stopped Poland's normally durable Dariusz Snarski in one in 2003 - a man who went 10 with Arthur - and tough Ugandan John Mackay in five in 2005. He holds a six-round decision over Oldham hard man Choi Tseveenpurev, who can't get a fight. He proved he could do the 12 rounds against Allotey (Khan has never done more than 10). He showed real courage and commitment the night he challenged Arthur.
A worthy, capable, uncomplicated, underrated champion.

Doubtful, that’s not because Khan will avoid him but because Stewart can no longer make lightweight. He pulled out of a British title eliminator with Dean Hickman last Friday because of weight-making issues.stujones wrote:I agree with the consensus..... it is a step up, but the easiest possible step up. Tom Podmore.
I agree, I do wish people would stop having a go at JCC jnr. Another difference between him and Khan is that I think they are maturing at different rates. I think Khan is younger but looks older and certainly has a better physique. Chavez is going to be a slow burner - but is improving.TerribleTerry wrote:Diff is that JCC Jnr is learning as a pro - He hasnt the amateur pedigree of Khan to fall back on.lvlarc wrote:Good matchup on paper. The guy who draw and then lost a tad controvesially to Chavez was a damn good relentless fighter.... Much better than anything Mitchell, Murray and Khan have faced (although I do think Komjathi was a good opponent for Khan).
Chavez Jr had a short amateur career as did Khan. Although you'd think he'd know a thing or two before going pro, what with him being the son of a boxing legend. I think the main difference between the two is that Khan has been hyped as a potential future great whilst fighting non punchers, which gets on peoples tits.TerribleTerry wrote:Diff is that JCC Jnr is learning as a pro - He hasnt the amateur pedigree of Khan to fall back on.lvlarc wrote:Good matchup on paper. I don't think people should complain about Limond though. Commonwealth title in 13th fight seems decent.
Are you talking about Molina Stu? 8-4-1?
I would say Nacho Mendoza whom Murray fought is a good fighter .stujones wrote:I agree, I do wish people would stop having a go at JCC jnr. He has just drawn with Peter Petrov another talented fighter for a minor WBC belt of some kind.
Don't care what his record is now.... he was 8-1 when he fought Chavez.lvlarc wrote:Chavez Jr had a short amateur career as did Khan. The guy can fight, wanted to fight and showed no respect for Chavez... I've seen both fights and he's much better than his record is. Even if Molina had a record like Billy Smith's at the time of the contest, I would still say (like I do with Smith) that he can fight. Murray/Khan (and Chavez) are a bit beyond Smith now... but what I am trying to say is records are not the be all and end all (take Emmanuel Augustus).
If Molina came over and fought Khan/Murray I'd be chuffed. Most of us were happy with Lazslo Komjathi, with good reason.... However, his record isn't that good everytime he stepped up he lost.
Look who Molina has lost too since... Undefeated prospects in their own right and by the cards none of them were comfortable. Given he was the away fighter, it is quite possible he was shafted.
Jermain White had a decent record also... hard to know how could he is - the only time he has lost previously was against Anthony Peterson one of the finest prospects arounds.
Steve, I do agree with what your saying if you judge it like that alone.... 31-0-1 and there are only two decent fighters I can see on his resume (Molina and White). However, how I view it as he's a four year pro - same as Murray. He has been a fair amount busier and I would say their opponents are pretty comparable (Murray has done it in fewer fights granted). Chavez is just really following many Mexican fighters by focusing on fighting often and still having a fairly long learning process and "padding" their record. First 4 years of Barrera's pro career he didn't fight many with winning records.
Oh I agree, he was very good. A big exaggeration when I called Molina "much" better than Mendoza and Komjathi (in the case of Khan). On a similar lines to Molina (both Mendoza and Molina were a tad more ambitious than Komjathi - who was the most experienced).contender wrote:I would say Nacho Mendoza whom Murray fought is a good fighter .stujones wrote:I agree, I do wish people would stop having a go at JCC jnr. I think if they were the same weight Molina vs Mendoza would be a damn good fight. I would slightly favour Molina from what I saw.
A decent enough 12th fight but what bugs me more than anything is that they have to keep getting in Super-Feathers to give Khan that extra advantage. This really pisses me off, it's licensed bullying.
By all means handpick the opposition as you cultivate your prospects career - that's boxing - but can't he fight people his own size? I actually don't think it should be allowed.

No offence but theirs only a 5 pound weight difference between super feathers and lightweight.
The bullshit water dehydration and day before weighs Ins depending on the opponent can be licensed bullying too.
Say If one fighter goes Into the ring with the same weight he weighed In at and the other guy puts a stone on going Into the ring thats licensed bullying too.

I don't know why, but I'm not as "up" for this fight as some... maybe the fact that its a title fight or a 12 rounder that is adding to this fight according to some folk... but I just cannot see how Limond is going to test Khan that much.
Not having a go at Bennie preview at all, but while Limond has comeback well after Arthur the standard of opponent hasn't been great. Kevin O Hara is okay but that was at Super Feather. I was actually dissapointed with his Allotey display, I expected Limond to win far more convincingly. Craig Docherty did.
I know my post must seem like I am president of the Lazlo Komjathi fan club... but is Limond really any better than Komjathi. Great that its a 12 rounder, but I actually think that Komjathi vs Limond 12 rounder would be very hard to predict.
Not that I'm complaining as Goz said... it his 12 fight. I think he's been matchup okay so far. Komjathi was an ambtious fight for his 7th fight and the 10 rounder with Drizlane was an excellent learning fight. I do wish he maybe stay at this level. But if he'd had have had the Komjathi fight at 11 and Drizlane at 12 in career order that would be an excellent resume. I just hope that, unlike after the Komjathi/Drizlane fights, he doesn't go back to the likes of Steffy Bull/Colin Bain after Limond.
Tell you what, I know he was a Super Feather - but I'd like to see Khan vs that Ghanain who gave Kevin Mitchell some problems recently.

Understand what you're saying and I've thought the same thing myself before but the weight divisions are there for a reason - why not find a Lightweight of a similar ilk to Limmond?
If there wasn't an advantage then why the consistent trend of matching Khan with guys from a weight class below?
Warren wasn't completely adverse to matching Hatton with established Lightweights on his way up too.

6lbs between Fly and Bantam, fair enough but to put Super Fly In between IS retarded.
Cruiserweight has 25lbs In It's class why Is there no weight class In that division then?
Good question, I don't know why Warren thinks It's that much of an advantage, thats If he thinks It Is though. By the looks of things he thinks It Is an advantage. If there wasn't an advantage then why the consistent trend of matching Khan with guys from a weight class below?
9lbs between Normal Feather and Lightweight but at least thats not too low.

Well presuming he stays under the guidance of Fwankie boy then I estimate your next post on Khan will be sometime in the summer of 2012, around the time of the London Olympics!overhand_right wrote:Cant get motivated for this one at all. Another boring predictable fight with a non-puncher that wont test Khan and will gift him a trinket. Talking about Khan is really boring now im done discussing him until he fights a live body.
