Also in the same column he (or whoever writes the crap) states "One of Kessler's recent wins was over Omar Sheika, who Calzaghe knocked out in 2000"

How could they let that go to print?
To make Kessler look bad?

Thats all I can think of.

I dunno... after Taylor nixed Frank's recent offers it would make sense to try and secure Kessler for less than he might eventually have to pay Taylor. Carl Froch, and the promise of another future superfight, for a fraction of that money must be very tempting for Frankie boy.

Everyone's gone quiet on Calzaghe-Froch, presumably because Frank DOES want options on Carl.

It's bloody ridiculous. If some guys price themselves out, Frank should make an effort to get something good. But does he?

We start off thinking about Kessler & Taylor, then it moves down to Jones Jr & Froch.

I think Calzaghe should take on opponents he doesn't want to face. He's had things so comfortable at times and gets complacent, takes his title for granted. Mundine didn't want to fight Soliman (awkwardness) but he took the fight and spanked the guy.

I wonder what HBO think about this situation? Basically Warren & Palle insulting each other via press releases.

Joe is excellent but he's not paid his dues yet. How can he moan about being underappreciated when he's got some serious making up to do for the last 2 fights? Even Joe looked embarrassed at the Manfredo post figth presser. It was a fvcking comedy.

Kesslers offer probably amounts to a 50-50 split or maybe 60-40 in Kesslers. No way Calazage accepts that. The best Kessler is going to get is 40% - Warrens offer was probably 35%. Kessler should have just taken the fight because what other options are there for KEssler? Not many hes not getting any American names thats for sure.
Your numbers don't add up. Try again.
What are the numbers then? Im sure the Warren proposed Calazage-Kessler worked out to $7m to Calazage $3m to KEssler plus Danish and German TV rights. Sounds about right
Try adding up your numbers and you will see that somehow according to your numbers Palle is capable of raising significantly more money for this fight than Warren is (unless that is what you are trying to tell us?).

I saw that bit just as I was wiping my arse. More shit came off the paper than my bum.
The danish news has picked up on the story from NOTW

(in danish)

I will be interresting to hear the response from Palle since the 5m$ is a good offer for either of the fighters.

If that's the case which, I hope it is, then there should be only one final hurdle...

what options will Warren want on Kessler??

If he asked for options on Kessler, everyone would have to just tell the guy to clear off.

It's quite a nice move from Warren it it's true. It will put the onus for accepting the fight squarely onto Team Palle. By offering 5 million dollars to Calzaghe for a fight in Denmark, Team Palle have effectively named a price that they can't refuse for Kessler to fight in the UK. As long as FW doesn't get too silly with his contract clauses then this fight might just be made. Otherwise both guys will have shown themselves up as being equally scared of facing each other.

This is actually good news. They go from showing off via the media, insulting one another etc to making what sounds like serious offers. $5m in Denmark, $5mil in Wales. Keep playing mallet's mallet. Something may happen soon.

By fighting Kessler, Calzaghe would have paid his dues from not fighting some of the guys he could have fought.

If he emerges with wins over Lacy AND Kessler, he gives himself the right to do whatever he wants. ie cash in vs Roy Jones Jr.

Also, IF this happens, if Kessler accepts, then it works out well for Inkin. He either gets a vacant title fight (say if Kessler wins and has TOO MANY mandatories to accommodate) or gets a guy who's perhaps come off the toughest win of his career (i.e. Calzaghe, at the end of a long reign as well) and for the taking.

You'd think there'd be less controversy, and more positive implications if this fight does happen.

Do you guys have a reference for the 5 million offer?

I agree, if Warren really offered this and he means it then they are talking business. Kessler could hardly reject such terms.

..... although there would still be substantive stuff for him to do -- notably win a good belt at 175. He should do this before going for Jones etc.. The winner of Dawson v. Briggs in particular would be a fine opponent for a fighter who wants to be great.

But Kessler first.

It first should have appeared on news of the world (notw) but i cannot seem to find it there? But it is quoted from there in the danish papers so i guess it must be there.

I cannot find anything on it at allegedly.tv either. Have now found it :D

As far as I know, the only reference to it is from Frank's own website and his NOTW column.

Ahhh i missed it.

I thought it would be a headline or a longer passage and not just single line of text after his rant against the WBC.

In a danish paper (BT) today, Warren is quoted saying they're now in actual talks with Palle based on the UK 5 mill offer, and that they've both agreed not to make public any further detail while negotiations are ongoing.
Really hope the paper is not merely overinterpretating Warrens NOTW collumn. If not, this is the most optimistic sounding news in this whole debate to date.

Big step up from hurling insults at each other throught he press - IF it's true.

This would be such a good fight. Both men have so much to fight for. I always lose faith in Joe when he buggers his career away. But unifications bring something extra out of him if the Lacy fight was anything to go by.

There would be. But the times that Warren can't deliver a big name, he can always justify it with a super middle title fight i.e. this is his 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th title defense...

Anyway, things are seemingly headed the right way.

Dawson's not fighting Briggs, I don't think. King turned it down for Briggs from what I heard.
