I disagree, Green may be a scrub but at least we got a chance to find out. Inkin has only fought one 168Iber of note, and by some accounts he didn't look too spectacular against a more recent opponent who shouldn't have been a problem. From my limited exposure to Inkin, I'd expect him to lose too many early rds to calzaghe, come strong towards the middle and do enough to make it competitive but not that close down the stretch.
Never said he was great. But he has a terrific set of skills. He did beat Orvill McKenzie, Mger Mkrtchian, Veit.
The last fight was an EASY win. He was in with a southpaw who came to run, and controlled the fight with nice footwork and used a neat selection of jabs, body shots and right hands.
Inkin's aguy who clearly knows how to fight. Green's all mouth and no method.
There was good news for Nottingham's Carl Froch today.
World super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe is refusing to fight mandatory challenger Denis Inkin - and that could cost him his title.
If Calzaghe is stripped, or moves up to light-heavyweight, Froch would then meet Inkin for the WBO crown.
"I've only got two or three fights left and I want a big name," said Calzaghe. "I don't want to waste six months preparing for a mandatory challenger I'd beat easily."
Calzaghe has also dismissed any chance of a showdown with Froch.
"Why would I want to fight Froch? I want bigger things than that," he said.
Looks like Pundit's theory is incorrect, although I find it hard to envisage Calzaghe dropping the WBO belt, when it gives him the opportunity to continue going on about how many defences he's made.
The only way I can see Calzaghe voluntarily ditching the belt is if a fight with Kessler get's made, and he has the chance to continue his title run with another belt. If that is so, then all the better.
