Steve Bunce - peter oboh

i may have this wrong - But in an edition of boxing monthly ages ago, didnt Buncey write that he felt with enough preparation Peter Oboh could beat anyone?? I wonder how he rates his chances v Tony Oakey, and I wonder who the bookies would have favourite fot this.

Anyone know?

If Oakey is favourite I will eat my hat..

Only the onset of age can let Oboh lose this one and I just cant see that happening.

Whilst a good fighter with a phenomenal work rate, I think Buncey is exaggerating his prowess a little. Oboh is a bit straight up and mechanical. He has fantastic stamina, but he's an arm puncher who overwhelms his opponents, not a devastating one punch hitter. He's not got anything Glen Johnson hasn't except a bit more in the tank, and Johnson is better at working his way inside from a rolling crouch. I'd like to see him in with the likes of Woods with enough time to prepare properly, but I think Woods is the better overall fighter of the two.

IMO Oboh has/had the measure of every light heavy in recent years with the exception of peak RJJ and probably Darius.

I know guys who have sparred with him (and i mean quality fighters) who say they have never sparred anyone harder and who sapped there energy more quickly.
One guy in particular who said that has sparred most of the top super middles and light heavies in europe.

Unless Oboh's wheels come off due to age he should be too good for Oakey who will be beaten at his own game (fitness and workrate).

I have to laugh when i see Oboh how someone with such skinny legs can actually walk, never mind be an elite boxer

Sparring is one thing, fighting is another. I think Oboh is a quality fighter, but who has he ever beaten to suggest he could get away with his style at elite level....nobody. It's all well and good to suppose what might have been, but until you've walked the walk, its just supposition to imagine what you would do at elite level. For me, Oboh is too mechanial to get away with that style against a seasoned top level light heavyweight.

I think people get a bit emotional where Oboh is concerned due to his not having had the opportunities, which is a great shame.

The cat could compete at heavyweight and cruiserweight with good quality guys.

Oboh is a killer. And Oakeyis in big trouble.

Maloney once said on another forum he would never let Okaey near Oboh.

Why do you think he cant get fights.

Power to Oakey and before him Lowe (another fighter I rate who has under achieved).

Yes, it's true, his record bears that out. He's absolutely hard as nails physically, what an incredible physique he has, with those spindly legs, he has a hell of a lot of power in his upper body, a bit like Fitzsimmons.

He weighed in at 12 2 today

Also i have it on good authority that he was <12 stone last week.

He must have a weired metabolism, he's fought as high as the 190's before, I never saw those fights, does anyone know whether he was still ripped at 195, or was he flabby?

At Supermiddle he'd probably be more devastating, provided he's not weight drained at that weight.

Can't see many dinting his chin can you?

And he'd be a devestating puncher at the weight too.

I dunno, Crawford Ashley looked God awful at super middle when he drained himself down to the weight (and below..)

When i looked at the title of this thread i thought Steve Bunce was going to fight Peter Oboh, now i would pay money to see that, bet Bunce's voice would be even higher than normal when he saw Oboh approaching.

When you talk elite level who do you exactly mean??
light heavy has been fairly devoid of elite performers in recent years.... RJJ and D-Man.... Everyone else has been the next level down... the Woods, Gonzalez, Hall, etc etc etc..... Stopping Elvis, KOing Hansvoll is good form..... those other guys would have struggled to do that.

When fighting broke out at a venue a few years back Buncey said "it was terrible, now I am a big man but I was thrown over a table" - Nope big as he is, he wouldnt want to be the other side of the ropes - It was bad enough where he was hanging around at ringside - Seem to remember it following a Harrison fight, Audley that is.
