Solis isnt the only one who came in heavy, his two defecting counterparts were big too.

Gamboa olympic champ 105lbs light fly weighed in at 121lbs(super bantam) +16lbs

Barthelemy olympic champ 112lbs flyweight weighed in at 126lbs (featherweight) +14lbs

I met Juan Carlos Gomez at LA airport earlier today. Top bloke, bought me a beer and let me have a pic taken wearing his WBC Cruiserweight belt and his WBC Latino Heavyweight belt.

He commutes over to Germany to train, and splits his "home" time between LA & Paris.

I couldnt get away in the end, I think he was well chuffed to be spotted

Gomez was a GREAT fighter at cruiser. He would have tortured the likes of Bell, Jirov and Toney.

Agree with all except for the last fighter on your list. Whilst not the P4Per he was as a Super Middle, Toney was a different animal at Cruiser than the real fatty you see now.

Well Solis got the job done quickly, 42 seconds....
He looked a right fatty though. I do hope the ease of the victory doesnt mean he will continue fighting at that weight.
We have seen what Haye is capable of and this guy should be better

So come on fat boy, get in the gym, drop 30lbs and lets see some action

Toney was an excellent cruiser, but his legs were gone from the Jirov fight onward and I'm not sure he has it in him to deal with the size, speed & variety of JC Gomez. Toney is masterful but has a habit of (over) throwing the right hand and stumbling forward off balance. At cruiser that didn't happen much because he could lure his opponents in and counter on the backfoot...But looking back further, he was doing that stumbling thing vs Griffin (at 175) and even Littles (at 168).

Gomez was a real slickster, but doesn't get credit for being a nasty body puncher as well.

For my money, Gomez may have been the most talented of al cruiser champs.

Promoter Ahmet Oener was very happy: "We don´t need a long build up for Solis, we are looking at real opponents, guys like Brian Minto or Ray Austin for Solis next. Sidon have been a main event fighter at Universum shows and at our show he was in a four rounder against a prodebutant."
