Well Done David Haye
Well done David Haye a force to be reckoned with at HW - In his own words he is only 70 per cent at CW so if he can win the CW belt its back up to HW and stay there - Its a shame but any chance of a matchup with big Enzo looks very unlikely now unless Enzo bulks up and becomes a HW, then maybe - The quick end even surprised David who had trained hard for a long fight - Haye will have tougher fights at HW but without a doubt he has a bright future with the heavier men - Who knows he may even go all the way and become the heavyweight champ I think its possible but do you - A Very exciting fighter that the HW division badly needs.
Haye looked world class. Obviously it didn't answer all qs. But you look at williams/skelton and think "strictly domestic quality." you see sprott and it's like "solid european level." haye looks like he can be world class at heavy. his body looks right at 217.
oh, and i think they've really shown up Warren.

I see them as opposited. Haye looked so healthy at 6'3 , 217-pounds. He kept speed and power and by contrast, Haye at cruiser DOES appear drained. Also, he's a big guy and I like to see him hit big guys. He's not the shortest of punchers which makes him less effective v guys like Fragomeni.jomothepure wrote:Anyone else see some similarities between the carrers of Haye and JC Gomez?
JCG was an awesome cruiser, with ten defenses of a major belt and no one even giving him trouble (decent foes Marcello Dominguez twice, Aurino, Imamu Mayfield among the men he outclassed). But as soon as he became a heavy he was fat and oafish.
Not to come off too negative but is everyone maybe getting a bit too excited about this win? I mean how much can you really tell from a first round victory other than Haye will probably carry his power with him to HW and that Bonin's record was indeed smoke a mirrors?
It's a great win for him to get under his belt but it doesn't really answer any of the questions raised by the Fragomeni bout, which were the main issues going into the fight. People seem to be altering their views of Haye vs Macca or Mormeck based mainly on this fight which seems a bit rash to me.

He answered qs v Fragomeni. He showed he could pull out the W in a crisis - you know, face caked in blood, bad cut, persistent opponent. Him pulling out the win while drained as well is pretty impressive. Good to see him up at heavy where he feels just right physically. Hopefully he doesn't start adding loads of weight, 217 looked good. If he's brought along right, I can see him giving Chagaev a good fight.J-C wrote:Not to come off too negative but is everyone maybe getting a bit too excited about this win? I'm happy to eat my word's about Haye, he looked nice and mobile, quick, relaxed and heavy handed at heavyweight, he destroyed the guy inside of two minutes, cannot ask more of him than that. Exceptional performance, and every shot he hit him with hurt him, lovely long punching in there.
I will temper by excitment by noting that there are better Heavyweights out there than Bonin, but on that peformance, maybe, just maybe we have a heavyweight hope in this country, a young and marketable one at that.
Whilst Haye hasn't been a major draw previously, I can see big things in his future, at the end of the day, Maloney has already taken one british heavyweight to the top.
I thought it was a good promotion, the production values were good, and whilst they were a little schmaltzy for my tastes, for the general punter, it was a good dramatic entrace.
By the way, was that Tim Westwood talking bollocks during the entrace, or a westwoodalike?

I think we all see Herbie Hide as the horror story of natural cruisers moving up to heavy. Herbie, who admits to bulking up unnaturally and wasting all his speed and power on giants who can knock him out with the shadow of a punch.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I'm happy to eat my word's about Haye, he looked nice and mobile, quick, relaxed and heavy handed at heavyweight, he destroyed the guy inside of two minutes, cannot ask more of him than that. Interestingly Herbie had his 2nd fight in 4 weeks, stopping Pavol Polakovic (Mark Hobson WBU victim) in six last night. Looks like they've just missed each other.
Looks like Haye was telling the truth about killing himself to make cruiserweight.
I much prefer Haye's chances v Bell. Because Bell is handcuffed by a good jab. Will be harder for him punching down to Mormeck with less than a full tank.
I'm almost looking forward to his next heavyweight fight as his challenge to Mormeck.
whats wrong with getting excited with Haye's win? Since the departure of Lennox and letdown by frAudley, Britain needs a bonafide heavyweight prospect be it Enzo,be it Haye! The yanks on the main forum are maintaining their endless tirade of insults towards our UK prospects/champions so why not we support our fighters?J-C wrote:Not to come off too negative but is everyone maybe getting a bit too excited about this win? If Haye took on a top ten fighter next what will you criticise next?
Even though Bonin record is as you say 'smoke 'n' mirrors he was rated #11 by WBC so not bad for his 1st venture out at HW.
When David Haye "talks the talk but doesnt walk the walk" aka frAudley then I will criticise him, upto now in my opinion he's a star!!!

Easy now, where exactly do you get that I criticisin Haye from? All I've tried to do is maintain perspective. I said on here that Bonin was a good fight to take, actually I said in light of the fact that he was sitting on a WBC CW shot I wouldn't have been complaining if he fought someone worse than Bonin. All I'm saying is the Bonin fight hasn't altered my opinion of Haye as much as it seems to have for others. I knew Haye was excellent offensively my only concerns are over his defence and stamina neither of which I learnt much about last night, so what am I supposed to say?Timmbo wrote:whats wrong with getting excited with Haye's win? I saw the Bonin fight as a keep busy fight before his title shot and a chance to test the HW waters against a guy with a slightly inflated record. He won and won in style and I'm happy for the guy, but before the fight I though for example that Mormeck would be a very tough fight styles-wise for Haye, and beating Bonin does make me think that's any less the case.
As for people supporting British prospects, I personally find the hyping of fighters based on nationality a bit tedious but it's part of boxing and if people want to do it it's fine with me. I personally I don't really give a shit where a fighter is from I either like them or I don't and I happen to like Haye, but I won't let the fact he's British stop be giving my honest opinion.
Cheers

My answer to that entirely reflects Syntax Errors, no problem with Harrison and pretty sure he can handle Sprott but big Matt is another matter - A lighter Danny as he was last time out would be a very tough fight for David - Yes, as someone has said we must not get carried away and start seeing David as the heir to LL but he is a huge threat in the HW division which is great - We have some great fighters and great champions and whats wrong with being proud they are British - I do think in time David could get the crown but he has a lot of work to do before he wears it - Bloody good start, I thought Bonin was a bit risky for his debut at HW but David proved he has the power and skill and showed us yet again he is a really exciting fighter - I hope he changes his entrance music that is horrible.boxrec wrote:As both Haye and Harrison have beaten bonin, maybe they should fight each other. That'd be an interesting fight, as both of them have great expectations.
Who do you think would win?
