Bet365 have some decent odds on round betting.
Oscar to win, round by round...
9 40/1
10 35/1
11 35/1
12 35/1
I reckon those are quite tasty odds, because I cannot see Oscar stopping Floyd early, and can well see him having to chase a knockout late on to guarantee a win, what with the open scoring.
Then there's
Oscar to win rounds 7-9 25-1
Oscar to win 10-12 20/1
Tempting to stick a 5ver on each round from 9-12 and then a tenner on the win on points for oscar at 11/4 on points.
Draw at 14-1 looks good too.
Oscar by KO or TKO 13/2

You'd have to be a GREAT fighter to knock out Floyd I reckon, along the lines of a Duran or Leonard, and I don't think Oscar hits that level by a long shot.
Yes he's got a big advantage weight wise ( this should have been at 147 really ) but the truth is, he's never beaten a peak P4P fighter.
It's interesting, because you can't be SURE about how much difference the weight will make: it could be decisive, or it could mean nothing at all...
That's what makes it 50/50 in the eyes of alot of people.
But I see Floyd dominating on Sat night.

I do think Floyd is a better fighter overall, but I also think that Oscar's overall body of work and his fighting heart are more impressive. Oscar's been in some tough fights where he took his licks, we've not really seen Mayweather in a rought night yet, he's jinked and jived his way to the top so far, and has he beaten anyone with the size, skill and championship credentials of Oscar, not by a long shot in my opinion.
In a way, we've not seen just what Floyd is capable of, because nobody has pushed him that far yet. He's not faced off against a Duran, Leonard, Hearns level of fighter yet, Oscar is about as close as we've got right now, until Cotto goes on to prove otherwise.
This is why this is such a great fight, there are so many inponderables involved.

I think the problem for PBF in this fight is the fact that he hasn't brought his power with him in the move up the weight divisions. Apart from Arturo Gatti, he hasn't really looked spectacular. Against DLH, it's a big ask, unless of course he manges to bamboozle him for 12 rounds. Still unsure, but at the moment i'm picking the Golden Boy.

the yanks seem to laud that sort of behavious (especially from him) whereas the british fan seems to prefer the polite and humble type, Henman, Williams etc. i know i prefer our approachpasty_spud wrote:i'm half way through one of the 24/7 programme they've been showing and i want to reach into my TV and rip PBF 's throat out, cocky little basturd![]()
ODLH 10th rd knock out...

THere is no way this fight will be open scoring - I know people would like to hear that officially but there is no way anyone would let open scoring near this fight esp with De La Hoya's last few rounds against Trinidad (relatively) fresh in the memory..
The weight will make no difference here IMO - size only matters if you can impose it and Oscar wont be able to.
I like the Golden Boy n'all but I simply cant see the circumstances under which he can engineer a win..

Bookies are notoriously shite when it comes to odds for boxing though.Riddick Blowe wrote:Close but clear UD for floyd. He'll have some scares along the way.
Oh, and not worth betting on in the slightest. Does nobody realize that if the bookies were ever to pay attention to getting the odds right for a fight (and god knows they've made their mistakes), it would be this one?
It is definetly worth a punt on the last few rounds for Oscar.

I watched Quartey-DLH yesterday and Quartey took him to school. I had Quartey winning 8-9rounds of that 1. The balance, timing and better defense of Quartey made the difference as DLH got took to school. Quartey also showed how superior balance and footwork bothers Oscar.
DLH has never had an amazing defense and Mayweather will find him very easy to find. When Oscars hands are in motion there fast but he isn't quick to react to get his first punch off. Yes Mayweather doesn't have the jab of Quartey but Mayweathers is quick and DLh is equally susceptable to a fast overhand right and a fast left hook.
As for Oscars controversal fights - Whitaker/Quartey/Sturm/Mosley2 beat him but he did beat Trinidad.

Ike was passed his prime when Oscar FINALY gave him the call.
He'd been down with life threatening Malaria for about a year, had lost a lot of weight, then come back and found his punch resistance had eroded as Lopez put him over a few times and he scaped a draw.
After that, the Oscar fight was signed.
His chin was made of rock before that.

You could go on youtube and search for Quartey and Hoya if your bored at work - its got the full fight with slight bits missing at the end of the odd roundjamesmcdonnell wrote:Quartey though was a big welterweight who is now at 160, with a jackhammer jab. I've got that fight on order, will be watching it on Saturday daytime, be interesting to see it again.
In terms of reach/height Quartey isn't actually bigger than Mayweather, he was probably stronger but Mayweathers more athletic. Overall in terms of ability wouldn't we say Mayweather was better? I would

I heard all this, I wonder if Quartey got back in to peak condition for a big fight like this too. DLH/Arrum certainly tried to screw Quartey over by keeping him over for 18months and even then they needed to pay the judges.MightyWarrior wrote:Ike was passed his prime when Oscar FINALY gave him the call.

You'd have to expect that Quartey would have schooled Trinidad too.

Also I think Quartey is much more similar in style to Mayweather than Mosley. Pity for Quartey, never got the P4P ranking, big money or respect. yet he was a good belt holder and beat Delahoya.
Did anyone see Quartey-Vargas?

Better isn't the issue, it's the style that matters more.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:You could go on youtube and search for Quartey and Hoya if your bored at work - its got the full fight with slight bits missing at the end of the odd roundjamesmcdonnell wrote:Quartey though was a big welterweight who is now at 160, with a jackhammer jab. Agreed but the main difference in style is Quarteys jab. Mayweather has a better right and DLH was a sucker for the right against Quartey too.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Better isn't the issue, it's the style that matters more.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:You could go on youtube and search for Quartey and Hoya if your bored at work - its got the full fight with slight bits missing at the end of the odd roundjamesmcdonnell wrote:Quartey though was a big welterweight who is now at 160, with a jackhammer jab. This ofcourse ignores the fact how DLH may have changed his style. Roach seemingly wants Oscar to pressure Floyd and take a punch to land a punch. Oscars stamina and athleticism are also not once they were. He is however stronger.
Were also not factoring that Mayweather may well raise his game to another level in this 1.
So many paremeters but I think Mayweather will prove to be better - I've gone backwards and forth many times on this 1 though.

Yes, and the way Vargas took Quartey's shots showed an excellent chin. But then the nuclear punching Trinidad blasted Vargas to bits, and his punch resistance went after that.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:

Then guess who was on the phone again?
Just shows how timing is everything, and Oscar has made a career of making the right fight at the right time.
