I feel for Ben. i think he tried to do the right thing throughout, was caught on the hop found the situation enflamed by the mistaken damnation of Rhino and then found the situation ran away from him.

Pulling the plug was unneccesary though, especially for Suzanne who has had a host of DLH articles previewing the fight wipe from the www.

Since when did someone closing their free worldpress blog require an official statement?

Internet boxing is so glamorous!!
That was a flamboyant turn of phrase, i must confess.

I think it's pretty sad news. Some of the articles were very well written and the forum was good at times.

Ben and Spud must have put a massive amount of work into it all.

Must also be a very stressful thing to get involved with, especially when everybody has lives out of boxing.

You cant have it both ways though BigGar, you cant present yourself as a pro-media outlet and then quickly lean on the crutch of "lives out of boxing".

I dont mean that to sound cruel but in the context of the war Spud created, that was a pertinent sub-plot to the main argument.

I see your point DP.

Am sure Ben and Spud will be back. Just a bit shocked at the suddenness of all this. Everything appeared to be going well.

Well, it may have been "flamboyant", but it was accurate. The fact the site's closure has proved the main talking point of the day shows it had made an impact, so regardless of the publishing software, it had its place among the more important British outlets. Ben, as editor, is/was therefore the "official" voice of UKBP, and should he decide to reveal the reasons for the closure, it will be a "statement".

To an extent I agree Oliver, I was being a little facetious. I'm sure we'll all be interested when Ben breaks his public silence.

Well thats been explained...

Chin up Ben, some people should hand their heads in shame...and for once Spud aint to blame so maybe we should lay off him, im sure there comes a point in the future where he will be at fault

I hope it doesnt spell the end, time will tell

Spud isn't to blame?

Are you trying to tell me posting an entire thread criticising Maloney helped diffuse or gloss over the situation.

I think it was entitled "Furious....boxing politics!!!"

Spud, IMO(probably the last comment I will make as im not staff) probably shouldnt have gone mad(he may argue) but to me that was a sideshow, the real issues are nothing to do with Spud and his volatility...

If Ben wants to make a statement he will, if he doesnt then thats up to him...

When is the Spud Woolatt soap opera coming to TV? I'm sure channel 5 have shown an interest.

it's going to be a reality show called 'the pretender'

apparently the first 'challenge' spud was given was to see if he could smuggle sly's steroids through australian customs.

next week he has to try and mention 30 names of people involved in boxing in a 20 word post on an internet site.

And for some quick fire bonus points he has to get himself thrown off a boxing website. Will Potato Head achieve the impossible.

Tune in next week to find out...

this was where all the trouble started, im sure that there was also a post saying that he allegedly would allegedly ensure even boxing news were not authorised entry to forthcoming FA card........ but im equally sure that that post got deleted quite quickly allegedly.

strangely enough, over the last few days i have had to employ my son to answer my phone for me as it has been so so busy. he has worked his bollocks off and when it came to watching tv he stood right at the back of the room. probably the worst view in the living room.

oh.... i then slipped him 40 quid !

Nothing on CNN or CNBC today, i cant get BBC here, has the press conference happened yet??
Willet chewed gum throughout and blamed boxing politics for the current situation regarding ukboxingpress. He mentioned numerous phone discussions had taken place with allegedly, Ray Hatton, the ghost of Rod Hull and Dennis Hobson the night before and believed elitist fans had greatly contributed to the demise of his free blog.

Willet left with a veiled warning to the freeloaders in the press seats, claiming 'see you at the next FA show, arseholes'

Interviewed after the press conference was over, a visibly distressed Ricky Hatton asked 'what time do the pubs open round here?'

First and foremost, what a shame.

Ben was in touch a few weeks ago and I agreed to make the occasional youtube film available for his site, the first film went up a few days before the site was pulled (Please leave all "kiss of death" comments at the main gate)

My motivation for working with other sites is a concern for the health of the sport at the moment, cage fights, mis-matches, pre fight promotion, event management, boxer profiles are all things that need attention under the banner of "keeping up with the times".

The existence or failure of the site will not affect the bigger picture but its demise is a shame and another resource of people who are excited about the sport has closed.

Those of us who have been privvy to the 'full picture' know that Ben has been stitched up. As someone with an extensive journalistic and publishing background I can say categorically that from the evidence I've seen that someone has acted without integrity in a bid to save their own skin... and that person certainly isn't Ben.
