Ricky Hatton dropped by Sky

Post by The Blade »

I hear whispers that Sky have blown out Ricky .. asking too much money etc for the Castillo fight (which he might lose, but that's another story) and he has done a deal with Setanta. PPV with Beeb on delay - probably a week later.
Another great career move, maybe. Except we poor sods won't see it live unless we splash out on yet another channel.

If this is true, could explain why BBC paid to broadcast Hatton's last fight with Urango a week later? That was a strange move.

That means they will get even less buys, because Setanta won't be able to advertise the fight as well. Hatton's career has never been managed well though, so I can't say I'm surprised.

It was managed well until a couple of years ago

No it wasn't. People were screaming for Hatton to step up two years before he fought Tszyu and the fans were at breaking point when he finally did get the big fight. Shit, the only reason Fwank made that fight is because Hatton was threatening to leave and then he did anyway.

I thought even Welterweight was too much for Ricky?

Wouldn't happen though anyway.

Itv might sign up Hatton if Warren's contract doesn't get renewed - not before.

Warren made that quite clear recently exactly what the "exclusive" means.... they can only show his shows .... maybe he can give consent if they want to show a card on a card by card basis (have to approach him on each and every non SN card they are interested in) ... that wasn't made clear, but there's as much chance of Warren allowing that as Hamed returning.

Thing is, it sounds like both Hatton AND Warren have been getting some serious leeway to do whatever the eff they like, from Sky (letting Ricky make more money via PPV) and ITV (letting Warren single handedly fvck up UK boxing).

They both need to be put seriously in check. If rumours are true, then EACH of their British paymasters are fed up with their attitudes, demands and quality of their fights.

A few weeks ago there were whispers on this forum that SKY may not be showing the De La Hoya - Mayweather Jr fight.

So we shall see.
