Wilfred Benitez v Meldrick Taylor

Post by Ezzard »

As there hasn't been a fantasy fight thread for a while I thought I'd put one up.

Taylor was exceptionally fast but he was not to smart in the ring and his movement was not great. I think Benitez intelligence in the ring would've made the difference. I'll go for Benitez by MD.

I think Taylor speed would frustrate Benitez. He cannot avoid all the punches. Taylor by decision or by KO late.

Meldrick is one of my favorite fighters ever, in his best fights he utilized perfect foot and hand speed well (two of his strengths), but again he would have a terrible habit of trying to out macho his opponent by unnecessarily brawling. Benitez also was a bit bigger than most of Taylor's opponents, so that may make a difference, so I say Benitez KO8.

Meldrick Taylor doesn't even belong in the same ring with Wilfredo Benitez.
Benitez wins an easy going away decision. :box: :box:

Taylor would throw a lot more leather and could easily outwork Benitez. Benitez would have a size adavantage... He was well known as someone who did not train as much as he perhaps should.

I don't see either man stopping the other. I think Taylor's tendency to brawl would help him here as the way to beat a defensive genius is to throw lots of punches.

I think people are overlooking the fact that Benitez had a pretty high workrate himself at his best certainly at 140 and 147... he edges Taylor in power, skill and defence and speed imo... Taylor was very good but Benitez was great... that would be the difference... Benitez at his peak would have decisioned Taylor quite comfortably imo...
