Boxrec Hall of Fame Ballot
Well, I guess it's time for another Hall of Fame Election. The deadline for submitting your ballot is Noon CDT on May 15, 2007. I will total the votes shortly after that.
A brief summary of the rules:
A voter can vote for up to 25 names. (If you vote for more than 25 your entire vote doesn't count.)
A fighter's last fight has to be after May 15, 1997 to be eligible.
You can change your vote. Your last vote before the deadline will be the counted.
Candidates who are named on 75% or more of the ballots are inducted.
Go to the Boxrec forum Hall of Fame Sticky for the complete rules and to see who has already been voted in.
To vote, just list your selections on this thread. (Don't put them on the Hall of Fame Sticky.)
It would be appreciated if you list your selections in alphabetical order on your ballot.
In the past elections, there had been a great variety of fighters elected. Hopefully we can continue to include fighters from a variety of eras, weight classes, countries, styles etc.
It would be nice if some knowledgeable regulars who didn't vote last time (decagon, silkov, barry, brocktonblockbuster,Ric,expug, dempseyfire, bill lockhart, martin cameron sosa etc.) and some newcomers will vote this time. This is a lot of fun.
To get things started, here is my ballot:
Abe Attell
Nino Benvenuti
Wilfred Benitez
Kid Chocolate
George Dixon
Joe Frazier
Gene Fullmer
Kid Gavilan
Wilfredo Gomez
Emile Griffith
Fighting Harada
Harold Johnson

Ray Leonard
Sonny Liston
Jimmy McClarnin
Packy McFarland
Rueben Olivares
Carlos Ortiz

Seamus' previous posts in the ballot have influenced my selection for Packy McFarland.
I'd like to raise the following fighters as must haves this round.
Emile Griffith
A great fighter with tremendous skill who came back from defeats and personal demons time after time. That shows the mentality of a great fighter. he cannot be overlooked any longer.
Joe Frazier
The guy beat Ali. You can whine about primes as much as you like but Ali was as clsoe to his prime as he ever was. Frazier's achievement is somehow lost on many.
these 2 deserve your votes. Do the right thing...

Nowadays there's no respect for us boxrec pioneers, men of vision.
I do believe though that you need to consolidate some names on that list, if you know what I mean.
Make room for other legends such as the infamous terap.
