DLH approach makes me think Hatton has a chance.
DLH approach makes me think Hatton has a chance.
DLH was effective in the early part of the fight with an educated pressure style and roughing Mayweather up when in close. He even managed to corner him a couple of times.
I think Hatton could employ a similar style to greater effect against Mayweather, mainly because the one main thing I think Hatton has above Oscar is footwork.
I think Hatton would close those gaps faster and would keep throwing punches all fight rather than in bursts. And no one roughs up in close quite like Hatton.
The main thing that Hatton lacks however is Oscars defence. Oscar blocked a lot of Floyds shots early on. Floyd would probably have range to tee off on Hatton a lot more... The fight has to be made.
Providing a good performance against Castillo, with Hattons UK fan base and Mayweather off the back of his biggest win, it would be a huge pay day for both.
Didn't Mayweather say he'd stick around for one more fight just to beat up Hatton if he was up for it?

What DLH did though that was effective was the straight combinations - the hooks and body shots wasn't effective at all (and he wanted them to be).
Hatton has to step that little bit closer than DLH to be effective. Also, his defense isn't quarter as good... and if Floyd can visible hurt DLH, he can hurt Hatton.
It hasn't changed my opinion, infact Mayweather surpreme accuracy has and surprising strength has made me swing further in his favour.
Mosely vs Mayweather is now a very interesting fight. What Mosley dislikes is a guy with a massive reach and a tremendous jab. Floyd's jab isn't his most outstanding weapon and he'll be smaller. Floyd won't like Mosley's speed or footwork.
I'd actually tip Mosley.

Yeah, both are good fights in my eyes.
I just can't see him retiring. There's just too many good money fights out there for him an he has never really been in any bruising fights, and he's always been in tip top shape. He could be the next B-Hop and go on to 40 if he wanted to.
Mosley
Hatton
Cotto
Margarito
DLH II
Carlos Maussa
There's just so much on offer that it'd be a crime if he retired without delivering at least half of the above.

Retiring now wouldn't make any sense. He gives it all the talk, but most rational people are not convinced by his so called 'legacy'. Only the PBF nut-huggers would accept he has concreted his legend status as of now. Sure he is an immensely talented fighter, but as far as I can tell, people will look back and say "remember that really slick fighter with a great defence that bored people to death and couldn't sell out a cloak room?" - "Oh yeah, boring bastard Floyd or something?"
god, that is just too much. Cotto would be a deadly fight for him right now. How long has Mayweather been fighting men in their mid-30s? There have always been losable fights out there for Floyd - could you seriously say that prime Tszyu, Casamayor or Stevie Johnston would've had no chance?Southpaw Stylist wrote:Nobody can beat Mayweather out there now.
As he showed tonight, he always finds a way. Simple.
I agree with a lot of that. But for me the main issue is regarding Hatton's fades. I mean, if he doesn't have that reservoir of energy anymore, he's done. As DLH showed, you can be in there for 8 rds, but if you're more tired than Mayweather near the end then you're in trouble...We'll have to wait and see for the Castillo fight and hope that he makes JLC look like an old man.DLH was effective in the early part of the fight with an educated pressure style and roughing Mayweather up when in close. I think prime Tszyu would have beaten Mayweather, I had the fight a draw and my brother had it 115-113 for DeLaHoya and my mate had it 115-113 for PBF. The fight was close and if Oscar didn't nap from 9-11 he would have won the fight.Final Fight wrote:god, that is just too much. Cotto would be a deadly fight for him right now. I think Hatton has a chance but he would be cyt up by Floyd, Moseley has a big chance as he dosn't tire as Oscar does and he is quicker.

No way would Hatton beat Mayweather.
Remember that fight last night was at light middle fo starters, and we can remember how much Hatton struggled just by stepping up to welterweight against a fighter like Collazo. Mayweather fought at a weight, really too much for him, and beat a bone fide light middle and great fighter, who obviously still has a great deal left.
Stepping back down to his natural weight, Mayweather would have far too much speed and nouse for Hatton. As mentioned, Hatton's pet punches are hooks and body shots, punches which Oscar wasn't haing a great deal of success with. Where Oscar was finding success was when getting in close and hitting straigh ounches, something which I don't think Hatton could do.

De La Hoya would murder Hatton, there's not much doubt about that in my mind.
The man to beat Mayweather in my opinion is Cotto, and i believe the pretty boy does not fancy this one much! If he goes back down to welterweight, he knows he will have to fight Cotto if Cotto keeps winning. Maybe, just maybe, this thinking plays a small part in his decision to retire while on top?

but, oscar showed that a youthful pressure fighter with power would beat mayweather.
I do not agree.
A youthful pressure fighter with
GREAT SPEED, GREAT DEFENCE, GREAT POWER,
Where is this person? - a YOUNG DURAN.
There is no fighter out there with those attributes.
Mosley has the best chance.

If Cotto worked on becoming a good pressure fighter in the gym and coming forward a bit more, he may have all the required qualities you listed above.
